hot hot intake
hot hot intake
does anyone have any experience with this product? cause my intake is HOT as hell after a drive and its just no good.
im hoping to insulate it to some degree and maybe polish the rest of it to try to reject heat better at least under the hood. I am under the impression the air through the radiator is cooking the thing...
its made by DEI gold stickum helps reflect heat

It's probably not the radiator, if your intake manifold gets super hot on not so hot days then there is a problem. The intake get hot from the turbo. You should try and do a couple of pulls at night then pull over pop the hood and feel the intake manifold, if it's still hot then something is wrong. My "turbo" intake is always warmer then my intercooler or intake manifold. It's the turbo.
also, hood vents will do wonders with under hood temps.
the 3G TL guys have been cutting our hoods and using MB, BMW M-series, Aston martin, Jaguar, etc.. hood vents..
this DRASTICALLY reduces under hood temps, which affects intake and IAT temps.
P.S. the M3/jaguar Vents are pretty aggressive.
MB vents comes stock on basic Mercedes and will look the best, i think.
if you're aesthetically modified the M3 vents will look cool!!!!
I would go this route before wrapping the intake....as wrapping intake isnt proven to reduce iat temps.

RDX hood scoop FTW!!!! hahahaha

I like the MB vents because they are parallel with the hood width.
this means that they would look okay without being aggressively modified aesthetically.
the m3 vents NEED an aggressive looking body to pull off.

I'll end up cutting my hood and implementing a hood vent soon.
most likely MB vents.
if you were keeping up with my TL build, I recently swapped heads with a 3.7l MDX.
the MDX heads have better cooling jackets!!!
which would mean underhood temps will go down!
but i really like the look of the hood vents, especially the M3.

I watched my friend do it in HORROR!
he took a dremel tool and after measuring twice, cut once.
after seeing him do it tho, its pretty easy.
just gotta make sure your measurements are spot on.

my IAT never get below 80 after I start driving. which is bull shit on a day with air temps is the 40-50 right? also need a way to get air from the radiator away from the intercooler on the bottom side. not sure how ill get this to happen. ??? any thoughts?
Ok, one question. Is your intercooler and intake manifold getting crazy hot on cooler days?
no just the intake the intercooler is hot on the hot side but much cooler toward the intake manifold. that's why im thinking the radiator is blasting it with 200 degree air.
on a different subject what part number is the un shrouded IAT sensor?

The intake is probably to far away from the radiator for it to be effected by it.

Home Hardware - 2"W x 30"L x 1/8" Thick EDPM Foam Insulation Tape
And then with an outer layer of reflective foil tape similar to your gold tape product.
It makes the intake look really ugly but even after a hot day and WOT multiple times, the foil take on the intake isn't even warm.
Your BOV and breather tube are venting warm-to-hot air into the intake, there is no way around this. Unless you get a catch can and/or open BOV. The catch can will help take some of the hot air out of the intake (from breather tube). The thermal stuff just make you look a ricer and does nothing (Been there done that) and my intake still got hot!
I'm not sure if my BOV is recirculating back into the intake tube, it's the stock BOV and i thought the stock BOV is fully atmospheric.
In accordance with one of the laws of thermal dynamics, heat will be dispersed to areas with cooler temperatures (Ie: coffee steaming into atmosphere).. so unless you're telling us that the intake tube has hotter air than the engine bay, then using a foil tape will be helpful in preventing heat being dispersed onto the tube (which i think should typically always have cooler air than the ambient temperature in the engine bay.)
