Latest NAV DVD

Guys,

I just purchased the latest NAV DVD from Acura for my 2007 RDX. Does anyone know where I can find any documentation or procedures on how to install it? It didn't come with anything. I am assuming the DVD player is in the trunk? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The DVD drive for the nav is behind a small carpeted rectangular panel in the center console, accessible from the passenger side.

Thanks for the info. Is there anything special I need to do besides put it into the DVD Player?

The car manual tells you where it is and what to do.

RE: latest DVD update

I think the updates to the Nav DVD, comes out at the end of September. So if you bought it in 2009, before september, the you might be getting the DVD update that came out in Sept 2008. That was what I was told by the customer service agent. I am waiting till October to make the purchase to make sure I get the latest updates to the Nav system.

from the acura nav web site:

2009 White DVD Map Update v4.73A
Important Notice: The New 2010 DVD Map Update will be available by the end of September. You may want to consider placing your order then so you will have the most up-to-date map for your vehicle.

2010 White DVD Map Update v4.81
Technically it is reusable, but my understanding is that you aren't supposed to sell it.

I just took a look at the new acuranavi site, and other than talking about coverage, they no longer list what's new for each upgrade (or at least I wasn't able to find it). I'm curious to know what has changed for 4.81. When you do upgrade, would you mind following the directions here -->

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...96&postcount=6

to let us know how many points of interest the update contains? 4.73 had about 6M...I'm curious to know if 4.81 grew even more.

I have not actually read the whole license agreement though, so it is possible I'm wrong on this.

Well, I didn't mean that because it's on ebay is right...So I understand now what you are saying...

The thing is, who would buy the "older version"?....rather, there is a very small niche of people who would buy the old(er) version...

well, much to my chagrin, the 2010 nav update did zero to update the Nav Traffic in NYC area.
I was hoping to get more real time traffic info, but nope... and calls to Acura, NavTeq, and XM get nowhere. Hard to believe that the East Side Highway, West side Highway, Holland Tunnel, Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges, Belt Parkway, Hutch, Saw Mill, and the NJ Turnpike, all have no info (google, sirius traffic, and NavTeq's own web site all have complete coverage). Unreal. No one at XM could offer any information at all.

Yeah I had the same issue here in Phoenix, I went to NavTec's site which showed they offer information for all major interstates etc... in town, so one would think that the "NEW" DVD from them would include this, but it appears it does not. So I am clueless and no single place appears to be the buck stops here place, they all point the finger at someone else, Acura, NavTec, XM, etc...etc...

I get complete coverage on my 2 year old Windows Mobile Cell phone by using Google Maps, which also includes data down to the side streets etc... Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I don't get why the car manufactures don't just put in systems that use the internet (via a cell phone's connection) to display data and maps etc... Seems so much more efficient.

I won't upgrade my DVD again until they assure me the information has been updated.

I finally heard from someone at XM on this.
They claim they are testing further coverage, to be live by the end of the year.
The "extra" data on the other sites, so they say, is not from live sensors but either old reports or from other sources. XM only uses real time sensors, so therefore they have less coverage.
Well, that's what he said. So upgrading the Nav disk does nothing to increase traffic data coverage, it's strictly an XM issue.

Well that is interesting. Then they are way behind all other sources then. ANd according to some of the other sources they also only use "live" real-time data.

I don't have a whole lot of faith in a company that has completely broken webpages. Try the tabs/links on this page about XM navtraffic

http://www.xmradio.com/navtraffic/

All broken.

They fixed that page finally. I do wish XM would update their coverage to match what Navtex actually provides.

The newer DVD's have copy protection. The iso's out there in general do not work.

The last iso that works is 4.62 which is 2007-2008. After that the dvds are copy protected so creating an iso would be far more difficult... not to say it's completely impossible. Post back if it was successful.

Its a shame acura doesn't have a map trade up program for the disks. $200 for an upgrade that for most users is a pretty minor one is a huge ripoff.

I gave up on the ISO burn. after two unsuccessfully burns, all i could get was it would upload the latest firmware, but then it wouldn't recognize the maps and I would have to reload my older DVD. the only thing diffrent I would like to try is a direct disk copy from someone that had the latest DVD. Only then would I compleatly wright it off. but im not purchising current version when an even newer version will be out in a couple of months

Thanks, dkswim. I've done research on this and it appears the copy protection is very hard to crack. Supposedly some in Japan are having success with a specialized software, but that program is hard to come by here. The wait continues.

I thought the the DVD drive from Acura is designed to reject burnt copies of the DVD nav discs. Hence, all the problems?

I've never heard of anyone sucessfully making a burnt copy work.
