Latest NAV DVD
Latest NAV DVD
Guys,
I just purchased the latest NAV DVD from Acura for my 2007 RDX. Does anyone know where I can find any documentation or procedures on how to install it? It didn't come with anything. I am assuming the DVD player is in the trunk? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: latest DVD update
I think the updates to the Nav DVD, comes out at the end of September. So if you bought it in 2009, before september, the you might be getting the DVD update that came out in Sept 2008. That was what I was told by the customer service agent. I am waiting till October to make the purchase to make sure I get the latest updates to the Nav system.
from the acura nav web site:
2009 White DVD Map Update v4.73A
Important Notice: The New 2010 DVD Map Update will be available by the end of September. You may want to consider placing your order then so you will have the most up-to-date map for your vehicle.

Does anyone know if it the DVD that you remove after purchasing a new upgrade is reusable? I don't know what to do with my 2009 White DVD Map Update v4.73A when I upgade to 2010 White DVD Map Update v4.81.

I just took a look at the new acuranavi site, and other than talking about coverage, they no longer list what's new for each upgrade (or at least I wasn't able to find it). I'm curious to know what has changed for 4.81. When you do upgrade, would you mind following the directions here -->

to let us know how many points of interest the update contains? 4.73 had about 6M...I'm curious to know if 4.81 grew even more.

The thing is, who would buy the "older version"?....rather, there is a very small niche of people who would buy the old(er) version...
Technically it is reusable, but my understanding is that you aren't supposed to sell it.

Mike, 4.81 has 6.26m entries...
just got it today.
haven't looked any deeper yet for changes
well, much to my chagrin, the 2010 nav update did zero to update the Nav Traffic in NYC area.
I was hoping to get more real time traffic info, but nope... and calls to Acura, NavTeq, and XM get nowhere. Hard to believe that the East Side Highway, West side Highway, Holland Tunnel, Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges, Belt Parkway, Hutch, Saw Mill, and the NJ Turnpike, all have no info (google, sirius traffic, and NavTeq's own web site all have complete coverage). Unreal. No one at XM could offer any information at all.

I get complete coverage on my 2 year old Windows Mobile Cell phone by using Google Maps, which also includes data down to the side streets etc... Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I don't get why the car manufactures don't just put in systems that use the internet (via a cell phone's connection) to display data and maps etc... Seems so much more efficient.
I won't upgrade my DVD again until they assure me the information has been updated.
I finally heard from someone at XM on this.
They claim they are testing further coverage, to be live by the end of the year.
The "extra" data on the other sites, so they say, is not from live sensors but either old reports or from other sources. XM only uses real time sensors, so therefore they have less coverage.
Well, that's what he said. So upgrading the Nav disk does nothing to increase traffic data coverage, it's strictly an XM issue.

I don't have a whole lot of faith in a company that has completely broken webpages. Try the tabs/links on this page about XM navtraffic

All broken.

The last iso that works is 4.62 which is 2007-2008. After that the dvds are copy protected so creating an iso would be far more difficult... not to say it's completely impossible. Post back if it was successful.
Its a shame acura doesn't have a map trade up program for the disks. $200 for an upgrade that for most users is a pretty minor one is a huge ripoff.

sorry i cant pm you (( im a new user ) but i subscribed 20 days ago and did more then 5 post but i don't know how it works but you can e-mail me ill share the file with you my email is like my screen name but (screen name) @gmail.com
well I have an update. I reburnt on a good DVD, I got it to load the updated sowtware but then it got to the maps and it didn't reconize the map software. so either third time is a charm or im missing some of the map data.
I gave up on the ISO burn. after two unsuccessfully burns, all i could get was it would upload the latest firmware, but then it wouldn't recognize the maps and I would have to reload my older DVD. the only thing diffrent I would like to try is a direct disk copy from someone that had the latest DVD. Only then would I compleatly wright it off. but im not purchising current version when an even newer version will be out in a couple of months
Thanks, dkswim. I've done research on this and it appears the copy protection is very hard to crack. Supposedly some in Japan are having success with a specialized software, but that program is hard to come by here. The wait continues.
