Dash display work with non-NAV RDX??

OK, I intend to install an aftermarket audio/visual/NAV system in my non-Tech Package RDX. I'm looking at removing the audio/AC display (where the NAV screen would be) and installing a touch-screen monitor to control the new system. In order to retain AC and factory CD capability, I purchased the dash display unit from a NAV equipped RDX. However, when I plugged it up, most of the LED read out was just scrambled. Characters that are non-changing (labels for the data space, like "AC" or "TEMP") all show up fine, but the remaining characters that change with new data (like the volume read-out) all show up scrambled.

Is the display just not compatible with the non-NAV CD player and AC control, or is the LED brain on this salvaged display bad? To my knowledge, there's no difference in the AC controls on Tech or non-Tech RDX's, so it seems that part should show up accurately on the display. I really think it's a bad display. Anyone out there have some expertise here??

Also, if someone could give me the wire colors going to the pin connector for the display, that would be helpful as well. Thanks.
