RDX Nav, Audio, Video Transplant

Hello all you fellow Acura Owners...

Although I have been looking to purchase an RDX, that is not the reason for my post. My current project is my Acura NSX. I have been doing quite a bit of research to swap the audio, navigation and video system from an RDX into my NSX. I have a very good handle on what is needed (I have the RDX service manual and a background in electric engineering). I was wondering if anyone here knew of or about any 07-08 RDX's or MDX's with the i-drive (tech system) that may have met their intimely demise and are out to "salvage pasture". I'm trying to locate a dash harness and some other pieces that are pricey when purchased new.

Any help or direction would be very helpful.
Thank you,
Jeff

just call a junkyard and get them to do a nationwide search on the hotline. There is also someone selling the entire radio/nav system for the rdx on ebay. He might be able to get the harnesses.

There is currently a head unit, A/C control panel and video screen on ebay. You can try to put together everything you need over time but it is unlikely you will be able to find all items, especially the wiring harnesses, unless you get the entire salvaged vehicle. Try to get ahold of a factory manual so you know exactly how many and what components are involved in this system. I've seen a wrecked RDX Tech for about $16,000 at one of the online salvage auctions. You would pretty much have to buy the salvage, take everything you need, then turn around and sell the remaining salvage. Problem is that you don't know how much you can get for the remaining salvage.

Thank you,

I have found all the parts I need. I ended up buying a complete harness from the dealer. I also had them test all the components to make sure they worked. Very nice set up. Now the trick is installing it...

Thanks again.

Hi, Jeff!

Do you have wire connector pin information of the 2007 RDX navigation unit, can you please post here or pm me? I would replace mine with RDX navigation unit in the future. Please give me any input. Thank you in advance!

Glad you found it! I'd be interested in seeing a picture of it when you get it all rigged up

That looks amazing! Great work on that center console - it looks like it could have come that way from the factory.

Please keep us updated with your progress and post as many pics as you can.

Is the chassis to the RDX NAV unit double-DIN sized? I'm going to be adding an aftermarket system and haven't decided if I want to fabricate a double-DIN head unit mounting where the factory unit goes, or just use a touch-screen monitor with separate "brain" (like the Kenwood Portal system), mounting the monitor in place of (or in front of) the factory screen. Anyone who has tackled this type of job on the RDX, let me know what I'm in for!

One more question: Can you give me the wire colors/diagram for the connecting pin to the dash display unit? I'm trying to add this display to my non-Tech RDX so I can place a new touch-screen where the current display is, but the display I purchased doesn't read correctly. I think it's defective, but it's possible it just may not be compatible with the non-NAV package CD/radio.

And, I answered my own question on the double-DIN thing. There's no way 1 will fit where the current screen is, without serious modification and rerouting some of the A/C ducting.

P.S. You're transplant job is awesome! Very clean.
