Bluetooth and mobile phone battery life

I have a Motorola RAZR and recently my battery life started to go from good to terrible. I can barely go thru the day (I'm not a big talker). Upon researching the subject online, I found out that one possible cause for this could be the Bluetooth link with my RDX. Seems like, because it's constantly on and I'm in a very close vicinity of the car anyway, it "eats" the battery. Anyone else with a similar problem? Fixes? Thanks.

sounds normal to me. i have the razr as well and since i started using the HFL with it, my battery life is much less. but that's no different from when i was using my bluetooth headset with my razr.

yup, I'm in the same boat. I keep turning the bluetooth on when I get in the car, then off when I'm out of the car so the battery doesn't get drained as fast. Kind of a pain, but it seems to help with battery life.

Some phones have a smart bluetooth mode to reduce battery consumption when the bluetooth is not actively engaged. But yeah, an active bluetooth connection will burn your battery quickly. If you're going on a long drive, a car charger for your phone is a good idea.

Bluetooth in general goes through a battery charge pretty quickly.

Are you on Verizon by any chance? I've been experiencing the EXACT same thing, but only recently. I've had my RAZR and my RDX for over a year, but in the last month, my batteries (both my standard and extended) have suddenly started draining incredibly quickly. If I leave the phone on overnight, it's all but dead in the morning. I thought maybe it was the bluetooth, so I turned it off....no difference. I started to wonder if maybe Verizon had made some software changes or if they had done something with the towers in my area (signal is pretty weak regularly). To test this theory, I took my phone with me on a recent trip to CA. To my surprise, one charge lasted me 1.5 weeks!!! I've found that I can replicate it if I turn my phone off while I'm at home, and only turn it on when I go out (usually to areas with more towers).

Bottom line....has Verizon made some changes they're not telling us about?

my nokia sees a drop in battery life with bluetooth. Its normal. Turn it off when you leave the car and turn it back on when you come in. (you can certainly setup a shortcut for that so you don't have to navigate through the annoying moto menus )

Also if you have the option to make the phone visibility hidden, I'd give that a try and see if the battery life improves. This does not affect any devices that have already been paired, if its been paired already and the phone detects the other device it will connect to it. Hidden I think just disables the broadcasting of its presence piece which should save some power.

Its a feature on Nokia, but I don't think its an option on motorolas (I forget I had an e815 and barely used the bluetooth, now got the rdx and while I got the rdx I also got my new phone so I really didn't test the moto out fully with the rdx)

I have a motorola (Nextel, though, sigh...work phone and it is free) and it only has minimal impact on battery life. I am in the car maybe 1 hour a day and mostly use push to talk during the day.

I also own a Motorola RAZR and experience the same. Even if you are not a big talker, the battery is still being used because the bluetooth function is on. The RAZR's has a small battery which means it will not last too long. The answer is to find another phone or purchase a car phone charger for the RAZR.
