Window Tinting
Window Tinting
This is my first post. Just picked up my Moroccan Red Pearl with Ebony and Tech.
Quick question. I just had 20% tint applied to the two front doors, having been told it should match the rear factory tint. For the most part it's not bad, but I can definitely tell it's darker than the rear which just isn't good.
The question is, what should I apply to the back? 35%? I know if I apply 20% to the rear, it will definitely be darker than the fronts, which is fine. I either want to match the fronts or I want my rears darker. However, I also know that putting 20% on the back will make it practically opaque. I don't mind, but I'd rather just try to match the fronts. So what has your experience with tint said would be best?
Oh, one more question. I was debating metallic versus ceramic. The guy told me I could try the metallic out. Since the ceramic cost twice as much, I figured no harm in trying it out, even though I was skeptical because in the manual it specifically says it could cause interference with the GPS. With just the front windows tinted, I haven't noticed a problem yet, but before I go and tint the rest of the car with metallic tint, has anyone else here done that?
I don't want to be cheap at the expense of having GPS problems. And I don't want them to have to pull the rear tint off. It's one thing to try it just on the front windows. That's easy enough to remove.
Thanks.

when i went to get my windows tinted, i said to match the rear factory tints and thats what he did. If I'm not mistaken the factory tints are 20% so thats what he put on the fronts. Looks great so I dont know why yours isnt matching if its 20%.
i went with 35% (ceramic tint) all around. in Hawaii it is illegal to have anything darker than 33% on the front two windows. all other windows (excluding the front windsheild) can be as drak as i want it to be. also i dont know if you know this but the RDX does not come tinted from the factory. it is privacy glass not tint. do not be mistaken.
the factory is definitely not 20%. i was at the shop for a while and the guy put both 20 and 35% on (small piece). the 20% darker than factory while 35% is lighter. i went with 35% to avoid front heavy effect.
According to the CHP web site, front side window tinting is illegal in California.

20 tint looks darker on the front windows because the windows by themselves have a tint to them. They aren't perfectly clear.

I see you went with 20% as well. If you don't mind my asking, did you tint all the rear windows or just front doors?
Other question, did you use metallic or ceramic tint?
Thanks.
I've had 15% on my past 2 vehicles. If I have them put 15 on the front windows, anyone know what would need to be applied to the rear window to match? I'm guessing most shops will know the answer, but I'm just doing some research before I do it.
I would like to know whats the difference between privacy and UV tinting. I reckon with my black interior the cars gonna get mighty hot this summer. I thought the tinting on the car was to block the sun and keep the car alittle cooler. Are you saying its only for privacy?

Well just got back from the tint shop. I also told them I wanted it to match the rear windows. The ysaid the factory was probably 20%.. most are. i said well then 20% as I want it to match.
When the car came back, the guy said it is alittle darker then the rear windows. I couldnt tell until I got into the car and it was noticably darker from the inside. The out side... well you be the judge.

When I took mine to my tint shop, the owner said they had to apply either 35% or 50% to the back to make it all match up with my 20% at the fronts. So there's definitely a difference between 20% tint and the factory glass.
Okay i just had the 20% taken off as they were too dark for night driving for me, and looked darker anyway.
I had them replace it with 28% tint. It now looks closer to the factory rears and is easier to see out of at night.

Did 15% on mine as well. It is darker than the rears which you can tell from both inside and out, but only if you're intentionally looking for it. I really enjoy the extra tint the 15% gives. I too do 15% on everything I own. Not exactly legal here in CO, but oh well...it's worth the chance of getting caught.
wow, small world, eh. I live right behind the new shopping center off Harmony, in English Ranch.
If we ever have a RDX meet, we'll be the only 2 there. lol
Seems like not many of these out here. I think I've only seen one other, and it might have been yours.
Alright, enough hijacking.
