TPMS sensor cost

Interesting thing to note.

While noodling my tire/wheel options, it occurred to me that I'd have to have my existing tires broken down and the TPMS sensors moved.

I figured I'd price out some new sensors to see if it made sense to just put new ones on the new wheels.

Tire rack says:
315MHZ TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR
$224.00 for a quantity of 4
Then, unexpectedly, my Acura dealer ( acuraoflynnwood.com ) actually gave me a *better* and what seems a very reasonable price. Who knew?!
A complete set of TPMS sensors plus the washers and caps are $102.00. I
can have them shipped out within the next 24 hours for you.
If anyone is interested, PM me for the contact info from the specific sales person. She indicated they can ship.

I paid Cn$280 for a set of 4 new Acura TPMS installed by the tire shop I dealt with here in Toronto.

Anyone have any thoughts if there is a reason to pick the OEM sensors over ones from Tirerack, etc?

One bulkier than the other? Chance that the dealer will give grief over 3rd party sensors?

Thanks,

Sounds like a good deal to go anything other than OEM.

at the price you are getting, there is no reason to go aftermarket....$102 is pretty much what they cost.....you are not getting raped by the dealer...

Sorry, I thought it was obvious. When I bought my rims, they came with the wrong sensors. I ordered the TL sensors to swap out & now have no use for these. Hoping someone would take them off my hands before I Ebay them.

Yah, the dealer price sounds fine. But I was considering getting some tires+rims from Tirerack, and it would be easier in that case to have them shipped fully configured, instead of having them mounted here.

Hence -- after market sensors from Tirerack with convenience of having everything done by them, or OEM sensors, but I have to get the tires mounted.

Thanks,

-john

I have not purchased from Tirerack, but I believe that what they do is that they ship the products to a local guy, and HE/SHE is the one who assembles the tires.....I stand to be corrected....So, you will still have the opportunity to bring your sensors to that place and have them put the correct ones in.....

I just had an issue with this! I bought winter tires and a set of stock wheels off the web. I didn't buy TPMS sensors thinking I could easilly just buy them at my dealer for a reasonable price. BIG MISTAKE. When I arrived with my car they told tme the TPMS sensors were $80........EACH........ They only had one in stock anyhow. I had them mount and balance the tires without the sensors with the thought that I would get sensors and have them redo the mount and balance (it was only $35). I ordered the TPMS sensors and hardware from the Acura E-Store to be sent to my dealership to save on shipping for $140, with tax..... So it cost me $35 per wheel to get them myself through Acura shipped to their parts counter, or I could have paid the outrageous $80 a wheel price that they quoted me at the service desk.... Doesn't give me a real warm feel about these guys if I need parts in the future.... I am sure they can get me an engine for $40k plus labor....... Beware of parts at Acura of Avon.....

I've had a tpms error come on periodically for months now. Took car to dealer. They said all 4 sensors were bad. Shocking. And that it would cost $580. Now I know they are full of crap. My question is, I have factory 19's but I'm going up to 20's. Should I even bother replacing sensors. Will the bigger wheels just confuse the computer? (It confuses the computer on my Z because of the aftermarket wheels.) Can I get the shop who is mounting new wheels to install the right sensors properly or suck it up and go to the dealer?

I have 20" OZ Canyon ST wheels with Michellin MXM4 245/45 R18. Using OEM sensors no problems 1,400 miles so far.

I have a thread in the BLACK MARKET IF someone looking for sensor.

If anyone is still selling TPMS sensors id take some off your hands. I had metal caps and they rusted to the valve. I had to use vice grips to take them off and one of the valves got ripped off. Thanks
