Range Rover Evoque

Another new small(er) CUV - looks good though IMO. A little pricier than the current RDX, but similar specs with a 240hp 2.0 DI and 6 speed autobox. Interesting too in that you have a choice of two, or four, doors and a long list of optional setups.

I like it a lot too, I considered it, but can't afford a new ride, plus the visibility seems bad.

It seems like most luxury CUV from Europe starts at $40,000 (MB, Audi, Land Rover, and Porsche). I know these auto makers have smaller and less expensive CUV/crossover models they don't import to North America (like the VW Tiquan).

It is kinda hard to get excited about a $45,000-$58,000 I4 turbo baby Land Rover when you can get a MDX advance, QX56 or Dodge Durango R/T for the same price.

As much as we complain about Acura cars and SUVs; we don't scream/yell about the value and $$ we save compared to the competition.

To be fair the LR4 starts at $48.5 and that's a lot more car than the Evoque. And actually the money we save over the competition is the only thing we get to talk about.....isn't that what most of the threads are about here, how much "value for the money" we get with our RDX? we always go ack to "for the money".

F&F Syndrome

"What's the retail on one of those things?"
"More than you can afford pal, Ferrari.."
"... Smoke 'em."

I think it looks like a Mini + Flex mixed with a range-rover.

BTW 'shrooms are good, did you not learn anything from Super Mario Brothers? Every time I eat a mushroom swiss burger (McDonalds #14) I wanna monkey stomp some turtles, pick um up and kickum, and leap from high places to flag poles.

IMO short run on these underpowered 'Rovers. Only Low (old middle) class looking to hob knob would actually consider this a good vehicle. We'll see if I am wrong but it's a chocolate coated turd that may cost 'rover.

Only good that comes from it is possibly the parts, k series engine prolly.(speculation)

I actually think that this car will sell "well" for a LR. It's a soft utte, which is the trend, it's cute and has unique styling, and it's endorsed and design with the input of Victoria Beckham; that may not mean anything to you or I, but it does to some people.

If only LR put all their cars on a diet...

james may reviewed it on top gear

its platform is still from the LR2 which sells so slow the dealer near me offered it new for $30,500 after 4,500 in rebates

volvo XC60 is an improved version of the LR2 platform with city safety radar system nicely equipped for the same price as the RDX

in my area 2 yr old range rovers sell for low 30s too- insane depreciation stemming from land rover being rated least reliable brand and 12mpg city EPA rating

I would go with one of these before the evoque, or an X3 I6 turbo if I wanted to spend that much money

it's a very nice car, seen it on the streets the other day. looking very.. different.. but in a nice way. This one was white with tinted windows, brutally nice
A quick look on prices: a reasonable equipped one with 190HP diesel engine ~ 50k EUR ~ 68k USD (this model is 3k less than the 240hp petrol engine with same equipment level)... definitely not worthin..

Sorry, I just don't see how that SUV is $43K. If I am going to spend that kind of money I'm going to get what I really want, either a used BMW M5 or a newer/used Audi S4 and then let my wife drive the RDX.

too bad you won't be able to buy one for that price.
If it's a used one you talk about, the used Evoque will probably cost much lesss

Why would I get this instead of the Q5 2.0T, which is cheaper?
Because I like poor visibility?

If you want that engine that badly, wait for the Ford Kuga, which will be very similar for a lot less..

True, but at least the RDX isn't that much more expensive than a loaded CRV.

Maybe if the Evoque had a larger engine like an S/C V6 like Audi or Turbo I6 like BMW instead of an Turbo I4 from Ford it could up the desirability factor? It seems the combination of larger displacement of the V6 or I6 with forced induction, 8 speed tranny, and direct injection are providing some pretty good mpg numbers and outstanding power figures (Hint, Hint, Acura!!).

Maybe Range Rover should include a hybrid power train to hit it from the “Green” angle. The Range Rover will go from being an under powered $50,000 SUV to competing against Lexus RX 450h, BMW X6 hybrid, MB M-class diesels and hybrids and Porsche Cayenne hybrids.

I think folks with $$$ to burn will pay any price for a luxury hybrid vehicle if they think they are saving the planet.

The good points of the Evoque are:
1) is off road capable
2) comes standard with awd and Nav
3) get 28mpg hwy
4) looks awesome

I hope the will have it at the motortrend auto show, which I will be going to in a few weeks in Vegas, can't wait to check out the Evoque.

I read one spot they're going to offer that engine in the edge...thus it's an edge.

There is no longer an association between LR and Ford, so I would challenge the accuracy of that info.

Yes, same displacement engine, same horsepower....what does that mean? That 2.0L engine is also offered in the Explorer.
Even if the engines were identical, there is a lot more in a car than just the engine.

^^I actually like what I see there....
Just checked the local LR dealer inventory, the cheapest one is 48K, and they have four other ones at 54K....Waaaay too much for that car though.

Evoque looks awesome, like a mean mini tank, if it was $10k less it would be a steal, otherwise too overpriced. Also English car reliability is questionable, I'd be very skeptical keeping this ride past warranty.

What I can't figure why Japanese car manufacturers can't find a decent car designer, If Audi, Hyndai and Land Rover can.

It's like having hot or ugly girlfriends. Hot girlfriends are REALLY attractive at first, but they never seem to last you long. But ugly girlfriends will last forever.. unless you beat her up.
