Exclamation Oil Changes in MN

Hi All,

I've read some horror stories on here about oil changes (and the associated cost). Where do you go, and how much does it cost for your basic oil change?

Probably go to Walmart for Mobil 1 oil and filter, around $30. Then, DIY.

thats the best! But even if you can't DIY, still get oil & filter yourself from Walmart ($30) and then have the dealer install it and pay for labor only (~$15). This makes your cost under $50. I heard some dealers want $80-90 for an oil change

you paid approx 30 bucks for labour (I'm talking CDN dollar values of items)

Mobil 1 4.7L = Roughly 40 bucks
Good Oil Filter - roughly 10 bucks ( I recommend WIX or Napa Gold, I don't like the fram honda ones acura uses)

That's what I was afraid of...highway robbery. It appears that Wal-Mart will change the oil for you, with full synthetic, for $46. I don't know about you guys, but it's worth $6 to me not to have to crawl around under the car, dispose of the oil, etc.

I take my TSX to Bloomington Acura and it's like $30 -- is the price difference just for synthetic oil? Or did they do other stuff too?

In theory, yes, I agree. But I would not let walmart employees making minimum wage even walk near my car
I would either do it myself (thats actually what I am going to do), or would go to the mechanic I trust, or wost case , just go to Honda dealer...

Totally agree. It is so easy to do. It gives you a sence of satisfaction & you know it's done right. I've done mine twice already.

I'd be leary of Wally World synthetic. I brought my wife's grand vitara to a juffy lube and while i was waiting for it to be done, I noticed their board said synthetic change for $50 something. I thought that was actually a pretty good deal. I also noticed that they carried Mobil 1. I asked about a Mobil 1 oil change and if it was really just the 50 some-odd dollars and he just kind of chuckled and said there was a significant upcharge for the better oil. Never did ask what that was though.

The syn they used was something like Polar or something like that.

that won't help you when some moron over-tighten your drain plug, and couple oil changes latter you will need new oil pan. it'll be impossible to prove who is at fault.
