Got in a new ZDX

My dealer had an intro party for the new ZDX. First impression, it's beautiful! After that my opinion is that it is really just a smaller RDX for about $15,000 more dollars. It actually has lower mpg too. After going over the entire car it makes me feel that my RDX was truly a bargain. While it will be a limited edition the first year out, I wonder who will be the buyers for this at around $50,000? There are some great estalished nameplates at that price range. Should I put up the pictures?

Sure, post some pics

I have yet to be able to sit inside of a ZDX. "Just a smaller RDX?"

I would be curious to see what other RDX owners think of the ZDX.

Dealership by me got it in the showcase. Looks sleek and powerful. Same engine as the MDX. Prob should turbo that, it'd be awesome. Eventhough it can hold 5, it's really build for the two seater mindset.

Sat in one at the SJ auto show. It's very nice. Obviously not very practical, but then, the target demographic probably doesn't care. Much higher quality materials inside than the RDX, but that is expected given the price. Very cool how all the buttons "black out" when car is turned off.

I know it's not, but the thing does have about the same dimensions as the RDX. It has SH-AWD,2 fold down rear seats. The dash , steering wheel and center stack are almost identical. I realize all the magic is underneath the cabin and in the engine. Wait till you get in one and you'll see what I mean.

BTW, I for the life of me can't find any hint as to how to attach a picture to a post

The ZDX is NOT even close to the RDX in dimension and weight. Granted, the ZDX is a little bit lower in height than the RDX but it is MUCH BIGGER in length and width and weight.

SPECS RDX ZDX
Length 180.7 192.4
Height 65.2 62.8
Width 73.6 78.5
Ground Clearance 6.3 7.9
Curb Weight 3935 4452

the center stack & dash is in no way identical to the RDX, maybe the MDX. From the hand stiched LEATHER dash board, to the appearance and buttons, the only thing that is similar is the nav dial. cmon dude its not even close. if you want to rationalize it that way, for yourself thats cool, like buying a 3 series and telling yourself its a 7.

See, I think it is the opposite. The interior and gizmos are better on the ZDX, but for performance, the RDX and ZDX are pretty similar.

Yea, the 2010 RDX is probably the last Acura to use the 5 cd setup. The MDX already has the harddrive setup which is vastly superior for many reasons including how the NAV works and looks. That being said, I love the tech look of the center stack on our RDX.

BTW, MMike the steering wheels are identical except for maybe one button or 2.

Loaner ZDX Today

Had a nice surprise this morning when I went out to get in the service loaner. It was a ZDX!! So, just a few observations/opinions. Tried to take a long as I could for my 6 mile ride from dealer to work. Sat for a few minutes getting situated. Really comfortable seat. Nice sound system (once I got music I wanted on). First difference I noticed from my '09 RDX upon driving was the quiet. Only heard muted engine noise and stereo. No road noise. 2nd was the weight. Much heavier and not as nimble as RDX to the seat of my pants. It really does accelerate nice for it size though. Speaking of size. I consider myself a really good parallel parker. Well, took me 2 shots to get it parked!! The width is really what got me more so than the length.

Is it nice--yes. Would I trade my RDX for it?? Nah!!!

Wow, the ZDX is a pig with all that weight.

I've only seen one ZDX in real life so far and it was several months ago. It was at the supermarket lot I frequent weekly. Some older gent was driving it with a smug look on his face. The car does look pretty cool, but...

Thing is, it's too heavy (MDX weight), too wide, too long. If Acura made just a slightly, ever so slightly, smaller version of the ZDX I would be seriously interested.

Better yet, just vamp up the next iteration of the RDX!!

Maybe, but I doubt it. More likely a stronger motor with more boost or, as many want, a V6. Also, the ZDX SH-AWD is much more aggressive than the current RDX. Hand it down to the next iteration of the RDX; hopefully if there is one!

After getting out of the loaner and back into my RDX I realized that even though the ZDX is larger dimension wise the interior is way to snug for me. It was like getting out of a closet compared to the RDX interior. Yes, the seats are comfortable. The ZDX door opening is smaller, it is much easier to get in and out of the RDX and the RDX front seat area has a lot more room and is so much 'airier' I don't feel closed in.

Liked the sound system and the power plant would be awesome in a vehicle of the RDX's weight.

Take RDX every time over ZDX. Probably could get almost 2 for the price!!

Add another vote for the RDX over the ZDX. My dealer has had a ZDX in the showroom for a while, and I've seen a few on the road. In a word, FUGLY. Somehow they managed to make the beak even uglier. As far as tech goes, it still bugs me how primitive Acura media systems are compared to even the most basic iPod or MP3 player. Even the American car makers are now starting to advertise more advanced systems. If the harddrive fixes that for Acura (I haven't played with one) then I'm all for it.
