Discounts on RDXs

rbone - I had a dealer quote me $500 UNDER invoice (not MSRP) on a base model. If a dealer has a lot of these on the lot like you reported, they are anxious to get rid of them, especially around the end of the month. Each dealer I was negoiating with said they wanted to close my deal before the end of the month. If you are serious, keep holding out. December is their slowest month because of the holidays and you could probably get them lower than invoice. I would contact a couple of dealers and get them to play against each other if that is not what you are already doing. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress, Jay

I test drove one yesterday. I loved the RDX but wish it didn't come with the cocky salesman that threw BS my way about item after item. I didn't correct him since I was not intending on purchasing that day, but will now only deal with the internet managers. BTW it was the new dealership in Montgomeryville in case you were wondering. They have at least 15 on their lot. One of the other dealers also around here was offering $3000 off MSRP (on the tech version) so I may see if I can do better than that in late Dec.
BTW...did anyone have their wheels chomed? Does Acura offer that or is it after-market? I want to get the stock wheels in chrome (not the 19" upgrades). Was wondering what the cost was....anyone?

Diggin' the RDX!

The dealer I am negotiating with has 16 on the lot. If the dealer is getting an $1100 kickback from Acura (Info from the above post
) then I guess I can do a bit better on my deal???
I called the internet sales person because I wanted to go meet and deal with her in person today but she's out of the office. I am waiting for her to call me back. I want to sit face to face and try to work out a deal. I am ready to buy today. I could always walk out of the dealership and wait for her to call me back if I don't like the deal.
LET THE GAME BEGIN! (Who said car buying isn't fun... I enjoy this part!)

The Tech is $33,960 including destination -- Tech invoice is 33,290 + 670 dest fee = $33,960. Subtract 3% dealer holdback of ~ $10xx (kickback from Acura) and net dealer COST is ~ $32,900 for Tech model (plus their own expenses -- ins, overhead ,etc.). Tech MSRP is $36,495.
Happy shopping!

They did come up on the trade-in to KBB but not exactly what we thought it should be, but it wasn't that bad. Overall, with the 4.9% financing we are paying only about $80 per month more than we would have paid if we bought a CRV. Not bad.
The sweetest part of this is that the RDX was to replace the 1998 CRV that my wife drove. After we went over the car with the saleswoman and are ready to leave, my wife hands me the keys and says "Its yours, you deserve it". After a brief denial, I grab the keys and got behind the wheel. It sure is sweet. Just have to learn how worked everything.
Anyway, thanks to everyone on this board. It helped get me a great car at a great price. Isn't the internet wonderful? Jay

18" Chrome Wheels
There are some on ebay for $575. Advance swap.
Now I know why the Anaheim Acura dealer had so many RDXs with the 18" chrome wheels. These guys are also in Anaheim.

The discounts are coming in. I'm in the process of negotiating for a Tech and it took me less than a day to get the dealers down from $35k towards $34k. I've read a few posts showing people getting it about $33.5k, but those dealerships are a bit of a haul for me. We'll see if I hit my number ;-)
I am a bit surprised at one or two dealerships that quoted me more than $36k.

JLoo - Don't be afraid to play the far off dealers against the local guys. A dealer that was 75 miles away gave be the best deal ($500 off invoice) which allowed me to negoiate the with a deal 20 miles away. My local dealer wouldn't budge below invoice, but I did not push him because the RDX he had did not have the taupe interior we wanted.
When we bought our MDX a few years ago, we went with a dealer that was 99 miles away. At the time, the dealers in our area were charging a premium for them and would do a lot of expensive add-ons. This was the only dealer that would get us the MDX we wanted with what we wanted at MSRP. We negoiated over the phone and processed the paperwork via email and fax. No problems at all. We have that vehicle serviced at the local dealer the same as if we bought it there and never had a problem. So I would not hesitate to drive a little longer to get a much better deal. Good luck. Jay

$34k+protection > $33.5k + Time & Travel
On a side note... I gave my local dealerships a chance to match or better this last offer. I got the This is below invoice. How am I supposed to make money on this?!? - response that I got.

altden - I can not speak for Seattle, but when we bought our MDX 4 years ago, we bought it out-of-state because it was the best deal on the car we wanted when we wanted it. The dealership was in New York and they said they sold many cars to people in CT. They were not that close to CT that they would sell a lot to CT residents. If you are not getting deals with dealerships in your area, check to see if there are any that are not far "over-the-line". I would think that the dealers in Portland regularly sell to Washington State residents. I have been told that getting a registration out-of-state is not that difficult.
Another thing - check on the sales tax difference between your state and the state you are buying in. When buying our RDX last week, I noticed that the sales tax in RI (where I was talking to one dealer) was 7% verses 6% here in CT. I mentioned this to the salesman and he said that they also owned a dealership in CT that they would sell the car through to get me the reduced sales tax rate. It would have saved me $300. Good luck. Jay

Didn't RI hit you for the difference or for the tax when you titled and registered your car?

Because I live in CT and the dealer had another dealership in CT, he was going to sell me the vehicle out of the CT dealership so that the lower sales tax applied. We did not buy at the dealer. When we bought in New York, its tax was the same or slightly higher than CT, so we paid CT nothing. You are right though, if we had bought in a state that had a lower tax rate than CT, we would still have been obligated to pay the difference to CT. They get you no matter what you do. Jay

Yeah, it's the sales tax issue i'm thinking about.
I could fly down to bay area and drive RDX back here. elgage44 says they deal below invoice, so for the price difference I could bring myself to do it.
As this page states http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/fees.html I will have to pay local (WA) sales tax (they call it "use tax"). The question is if I can convince CA dealers not to charge me CA sales tax.

To register a new vehicle in any state with a vehicle sales tax, you normally have to show proof of tax payment in that state. So when you buy a car out of state, you normally pay taxes to your home state. Most dealers can handle this, especially if they are near a state border or do a lot of out of state sales. I bought my last car in Maryland, and the dealer took care of taxes and registration for my home state of Virginia.
