2007 RDX - after 5 years of ownership

Still running as smooth as the day we took it from the showroom. Engine and transmission is as smooth as ever. This following 15 oil changes with Pennzoil platinum synthetic and FRAM oil filter. Changed only once, transmission fuid, but replaced rear differential fluid annually. No other Acura dealer maintenance services. Annually, put in a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner.

My Wife has the 11 and I think it is a very good car. That said the fit and finish of the exterior panels are not up to Acura standards. My TL is much better.

well fram is our manufacturer of oem filters so your not doing anything different. but if you can , get a different filter. there are so many better ones out there. fram is made out of cardboard while other ones are metal mesh filters.

True, but if I am changing my oil and filter consistently at every 4 months, i think the FRAM is good.

Oh forgot yo mention I had to change out the battery at 4 years, it went dead one winter evening, not sure why, didn't leave any lights or stereo on.

My battery died with zero warning at about the 3 year mark. The RDX started just fine a few hours early. Replaced with an interstate battery. Thought about the Optima brand for a split second; but, the price of one Optima can pay for two interstate batteries.

How many trouble free miles do you have on your RDX?

my battery died last week. it wasnt really dead it was very week. engine turned lazily so i had it swapped after 6 years. i was not very impressed with oem battery it was always weak. the new after market one i got has about 2x cold cranking amp. amazingly i noticed an improvement in my highway mileage since last week. according to scangauge my engine load has dropped at idle significantly. it used to be ~24% now its about ~19%. never thought bad batteries could put so much load on the engine.

My RDX is @ 60,000 miles after 5 years. But we drive up/down a steep mountain road everyday to our place. So I think that could be effectively like putting 80,000 miles on it; it is very different driving up a steep mountain road as compared with flat running roads.

IMO, that's excellent for a car that's 4-5 years old and at 60,000 miles.

For the leather, I use Lexol conditioner regularly together with Lexol detergent leather cleaner. Honestly, this leather is holding up better than the leather in my previous BMW. Of course, I think Lexol is definitely helping a lot. I just got another bottle of Lexol conditioner from Walmart, 500mL bottle for only $6.00, which is a deal.

I use lexol also. Its not the issue. my leather is fine, but some parts are clearly defective. This leather is not high grade, its way batter quality in my ES350.

Only things I have had are a bad switch in the transmission and the armrest thing from the early models (replaced with a '09 armrest which is holding up better). Not bad for a first year model.

07 RDXTECH

Just passed 50k miles.
Replaced battery at 36k
Replaced tires at 45k w/ Toyo Versado CUV- happier with the ride now.
Been very pleased with the RDX. Not sure what I will replace it with but prob not a 2gen RDX.

I feel the same way with my 08 RDX. I would only replace if the repair cost starts to get up there like the German imports. So Far, it has been routine maint and $350 for a bad brake sensor after 80,000 miles.

Unless they come out with a +2014 Type-S RDX (sport tuned suspension and sh-awd). I'm leaning toward a used ZDX or 10-12 MDX as a replacement a few years down the road.

how often do you guys change transmission fluid? i noticed the maintenance reminder is really conservative it has been 40,000km and it still not asking for ATF service. i have had 2-3 track sessions too. im going to replace it soon.

My 2007 is still going strong, but I do think I was hit by the whole 'power amp not shutting off' bug that was mentioned in one of the early TSBs. Every once in a while, my battery will go completely dead in a matter of 2 days sitting in the garage. Most times it will go a week or two with no apparent loss of charge. I've had it happen 3 times since I've owned the car, and up until yesterday, it was on the OEM battery. I just put in a Diehard Platinum AGM battery. I'm thinking that since it is a much better battery, AND AGMs are supposedly slightly more tolerant to deep cycles, maybe I'll be able to completely avoid the occasional jump start.

Funny though, even this occasional inconvenience hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for this gem one bit. I've never been more happy with a car.

Our 2008 is approaching 150k. Runs great. Just normal maintenance. Does eat a set of tires every 25-30k, but it always has. Brakes still suck like the day it was new. Center console armrest and right door armrest need replaced. Otherwise, everything holding up well. Hate to get rid of it. Would like something new, but we'll miss the power. Maybe considering Subaru Forester (new design for 2014 model). If Japanese spec model released in US that is it will have a 280hp turbo 4. We'll see.

2007 with 98,500 miles. Two new batteries, a couple sets of tires, oil, wipers, and AT fluid at 75K.
No real failures.

Still as tight and smooth as ever.

Just bought an '08 w/ tech (sight unseen). Carfax looked good and it only has 39K miles. Looks like very well maintained from the Carfax report. Good to hear these are strong running. I just sold a Mini Cooper Clubman and wow, not a real reliable car. I luckily didn't spend anything due to warranty, but mine and forum posts showed they have issues.

Thats why we went with a used low mileage RDX.

2007 RDX with 90,000 Miles

Have done regular maintenance, battery (twice), tires (Twice), brakes (once).

Also had to replace DVD system (warranty), chair (warranty) but no other major issues.

question - how many people are changing non-standard fluids (transmission, rear differential, etc.) without waiting for Maintenance Minder? I am worried that I haven't done enough at 90,000!

Thanks.

5 Year, 4 months Checking In!
Current Miles: 34,400
Purchased: July 15th, 2007

Very low mileage for 5+ years, all because I've always had a daily driver for the first 5 years - (DD with much better gas mileage). Well, as of January 2012, it became my daily driver!

Estimated to the best of my knowledge:
1st Year: 4,000 Miles
2nd Year: 4,000 Miles
3rd Year: 4,000 Miles
4th Year: 3,000 Miles
5th Year (Current): 19,400 Miles

Items Broken (not mechanical): 2012
Fender liner (was ripped by dealer upon front chin spoiler installation)
Passenger side fog-lamp (rock)

Issues:
1. Under hard braking, a grunting/moaning noise is present, just before coming to complete stop. Intermediate issue and doesn't come back too often.
2. Center console leather rippling

Tires: Stock Michelins that's barely about to reach the wear bars!!! Rotated once, by Americas Tire, at around 22,000 miles!

Maintenance:
10+ Mobil1 oil and filter changes (DIY)
MID called (once) for rear differential fluid change at 15,000 Miles (estimated).

Other than that, the RDX drives smoothly and drinks gas like day one!

2011 RDX with 43,000 miles. Zero defects. Just synthetic oil, wipers, other fluids. No leaks anywhere. Live in Colorado, so purchased MIchelin Alpin snows. Tire wear is good so far. Brake pads and battery are still original. Very pleased.

Just hit 100,000 miles in my 2007 RDX Tech yesterday. So far it's ok.

Got it used with 80,000 miles in it in March 2011 after I traded in my 2004 TSX, which had almost 88,000 miles on it.

hummm, interesting how you estimated 80k mountain miles ~ 60k regular miles...

our 08 RDX is also going strong. just a little over 60k kms, replaced the battery in oct when it decided to stopped working. also replaced the front rotors back in aug due steering wheel vibration when braking caused by daily mountain commute.

otherwise, 3 oil changes a year, winter tires between dec and mar, and still in love with the shawd system. in fact, we had ourselves a few inches of snow yesterday and we were cruising up and down the mountain while many others are abandoning their vehicles.

I did tranny , rear and transfer case at 40 k. Put in new recommended fluids as per acura. Only follow maint minder for oil changes and anything else. Plan on redoing all fluids in 30 k from now.

I changed out my battery out last year after 4 years (2007 RDX). My battery just would randomly quit. Acura couldn't provide an answer. After the 4th time, I just bought a new one. I read somewhere online that the stereo amplifier isn't turning off when ignition is shut off. It's been a year with no problems so far.

However, I found water in my glove compartment the day my stereo quit working and loss of bluetooth. They can't find that leak either and doesn't seem to be connected to AC/Compressor clutch failure.

Not sure how they can't locate a leak when water was definitely in the compartment and stereo was shorted out--$650 to get refurbished.

I had that problem in December of 2011 after the dealer replaced my XM unit. Apparently there was a short in the replaced unit or something that was causing the battery to constantly drain when the car was off. They replaced the XM module again and the battery was fine after that.

Just received the Acura info re AC clutch warranty extension- anyone w/ such issues? *EDIT* I SEE THERE IS A THREAD RE AC PROBLEMS

My MID display seems to have changed. No longer is it mostly white background w/ black numerics. Now, it is a black background with some white graphics as needed. Day or night. Will ck the forums and see what is there.

Regards,

Pease tell me more about A/C problems and noise

I'm having a groan in mine. Just went through old mail and found info about a problem, set it aside to read when I have time -- and can't find it.

Was it a warranty extension? How much should it cost to fix? Is it belts?

This terrible noise is sporadic, but usually only if I've been driving for a while.

Should I get it fixed at Crown (arghhh, the Crown Crooks) or will the Honda Dealer in Pinellas Park fix it?

Tx
