coilover install with problems

This kinda carries over from the ksport coilover sale thread but i didnt wanna hijack their thread with my problems. I recently installed my K sport coilovers. Was previously lowered on eiback sportlines with some blown kyb gr2 shocks. I also had an ingalls upper baljoint camber kit. Before with spring and shocks on the driver side balljoint would slam the shocktower on very hard bumps. I measured the car on a level surface before and after the coilover install and im only 1/8 and inch lower in the front and back than i was with sportlines.

they ride great.. Other than the fact that any time i hit the slightest dip or pothole in the road the Nut on top of the adjustable upper balljoints VIOLENTLY hits the Shocktower and makes a very unplesent noise..

sorry this is so long but i know im not the only person whos had this problem. and if ive got to raise it up its gonna make me regret buying the coilovers and wishing i had just got some yellows. Really dont like the idea of cutting a hole in the top of the shocktower and welding reinforcment around the hole because of how close it is to where the strut bar mounts.. Sorry i know this is long but the car is undrivable again and ive got a lot of money tied up in coilovers that i might regret buying.

simple solution: ditch the camber kit. IMO if your toe is within spec, I've owned cars with up to -3.x camber up front with little to no abnormal wear, even with large tire sizes. but yeah, with camber kits you gotta sacrafice one way or the other, or just pound the shit out of that area with a hammer or alternatively risk it and let your control arm slam its own little crevice over time.

This is what I did and haven't had any issues since. Took a sledgehammer and pounded the inside of the fender until there was clearance.

Did it bend up or show at all inside the engine bay?

Nope. All I hammered was the metal inside part of the fender where the upper arm sits.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm assuming that's the issue he's having.

no its hitting out at the top of the balljoint. has two massive dents in engine bay. I would have to beat in about another inch to have enough clerance. Its hitting over the smallest bumps now.

I'm not too familar with coilovers. It's 3:30am so please forgive any errors.

Anyway, sportlines drop you like 2.2" or so right" Now depending on how long you were using the sportlines, the car might have settled even lower. Than add on what you amount to 1" or so more drop from the coilovers and your looking at overall drop of 3-4" That's a lot, at least to me. Do coilovers use bump stops? I just dont understand how this could happen. Then again, with that much drop, you're putting tons of stress on all the other suspension components you could have bent something.

I'm actually having trouble with my CL, I used neuspeed springs which is really conservative drop wise. I've got three bushings/balljoints/mounts/I have no freaking clue making horrible noises. Point being none of it happened till I dropped her.

^That is why I really don't want to drop my car... I don't want to f*ck anything up. Then again, I look at other first genner's rides like Carson's and they don't have any problems with their drop. So then, I really want to drop the car!
It seems like the chances of having problems vs. no problems is 50/50 and I'm not that lucky of a person..

edit: I just remembered that Carson and the other first genners I'm thinking of got theirs installed professionaly so maybe that's why they aren't having any problems.

I rode no camber kits with massive neg camber, fender liner removed and tabs hammered back, was dumped and my shock towers had huge welts where it the balljoint slammed into it. I maybe went through 3-4 upper control arms. I even ran a stiffer set of spring rates on my ksports. That's just how it is if you ride dumped, gotta pay to play. I most likely rode lower than you though

yea but if id have known i cant go any lower without having this unbearable slamming then i would have just ordered a set of yellows and stayed on the sportlines. Nothing looks bent. I guess im gonna go through with the "Notching" of the shock tower. Gonna cut a hole just big enough for the camber bolt to come through, then weld some metal around it to reinforce. and trust me i know what low is.. None of these cars are low... u want low look at my avatar thats frame on the asphalt.. and it rides like a caddy

it really depends on where you live. personally, i don't drive slammed because i drive back home every month, which is like an hour and a half away. i don't think CLs give that much problems when they're slammed. the only downside is capabilities, if you're too low, too much tire rub. i don't wanna be rubbing taking corners

I have absolutely no rubbing problems. and all of my vehicles have been lowerd so its really just natural to me. Never got my trucks stuck like a lot of friends. curently all three of my rides are "HAMMERED" from the 5, 7 drop on my fullsize truck to my my s10 with full airbag suspension. I think the thing im most agrivated with and not trying to point any fingers but a lot of members on here really pushed these coilovers almost to the point of guranteeing me i would be able to go lower with them. Me being dumb bought them before reading some reviews from other fourms where K sports were given HORRIBLE reviews. Just wishing i had gone with a set of koni Yellows... any body wanna buy a barely used set of k sports

this thread sure is getting a bunch of views but all these people that said the k sports were so awesome dont seem to be making any posts. The coilover ride awesome in the back.. and even in the front they are fine except when i hit a dip.. If i didnt already have lowering springs and have found out that the ksports wouldnt let me go lower i would defiently be happy with them. But i wanna ride slammed and these just dont do it.
