WTF does this mean?
WTF does this mean?
I've had my check engine light on for a while now (2 weeks or so). I had it checked at advance auto parts last week to get it checked up. I read the noob guide and found out that i have an "Evap control system leak." I made an appointment for the stealership next Thursday so id like to know what the hell that is or what could possibly be wrong. Thanks.
P1457 EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System)
The most likely culprit is a stuck vent shut valve located on the side of the charcoal canister (under the vehicle near the rear subframe). The most difficult part about replacement is removing the two screws that hold it in place. They tend to corrode. The threads in the canister are just metal inserts in plastic. There could also be problems with the bypass solenoid or two-way valve. You can check for fuel inside the two way valve. If there is fuel, it needs to be replaced also. As far as cost, it depends on what they want to charge you. Probably 1-2hrs plus diagnosis. You could also have other problems, these are the most likely.

the EGR canister is located on the other side of the engine bay. by the ABS unit
there is also a big ass canister located in the back of the engine. if you remove the intake assembly its visible. the material is hard plastic. i dont think it would corrode. it might break though

Was it specifically that code? Mine was traced to an EGR problem. Found out all emissions related problems are now covered by an extended warranty (at least for 95 thru 97 cars) for 14 yrs or 150K miles. My dealer wasn't aware of this and I got a reimbursement from Acura.
warranty
The warranty on emissions related components was extended on some 95 thru 97 models to 14 years/150000 miles to settle a claim by the EPA that the Onboard Diagnostic system had some type of technical problem. Also, dealers will inspect the emissions system free between 50000 and 75000 miles, and between 75000 and 150000 miles they will do the emissions inspection plus replace the plugs and wires, and change the oil free of charge.

My CEL came on while I was going to work this morning and Ipulled this code. Seeing as the threads on this topic are all pretty old frommy searching, I figured I would just bump one of them and see if this is stillthe consensus or if anyone had some more recent experience/info on it. Ichecked the gas cap, looks fine. I'm going clear the code and drive it home tosee if it comes back on before I take it in. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.
