Transmission failing

So, I have a 97 3.0 CL that recently has been having trouble. Its always shifted high, and slight slipping that I just ignored as it wasn't that bad.

This past couple weeks, Ive been noticed some grease on the inside of my wheel barrels. I thought I just ran over some grease but it appears to come from the axle seal. In the noob guide it said that this is a indication of differential bearing failure.

How hard/expensive is this to fix? Is it even worth it really? The car does have 177,000 miles as of now on its first tranny

Thanks in advance
