Sqweaky steering

I keep hearing this aweful sqweaking noise when I turn the steering wheel and I have no clue what's causing it... I can hear the noise clearly from inside and I know people can hear it twice as loud outside because when I make turns in a parking lot people turn around and stare The noise just started recently when we started having cold weather... I didn't have time to check out the car yet... I am certain that it has to do with steering because the noise is continuous when I turn my wheels...Anyone know what it could be?

I'm gonna check the ps belt today, I had taken it off to change my alt belt, maybe it's not tight enough

does come from the steering column? i know chevy's have a huge problem like this. i think its caused by worn bushings in the steering linkage (from the steering wheel to rack)

Turned out to be a bad lower ball joint on the passenger side... the boot wasn't torn or anything it was just out of grease inside and making that awefully annoying noise...

Check your p/s belt to make sure it's torqed right. Then check your p/s/ fluid to see if its low. Then check the lines to see if there are any leaks. Place a cardboard bow or something under the carand then turn the wheel, If it leaks it should spray on the box. But it's probably just low on fluid.

Thanks for the input, but it turned out to be a bad lower ball joint...
