For those with a pnp hid kit.... problems with bulbs not firing up
Got my kit in today from the ebay seller. Everything visually looked/smelled brand new, and I'm assuming he wouldn't ship DOA equipment seeing as he has 100 percent feedback for several years.
Well when I opened it up, I found that the kit didn't come with a built in fuse/relay harness kit. It just had a plug and play harness that makes the ballast derrive all the power directly from the low beam plugs and not the car battery. Kind of alarming, but I've read around and though non-relayed kits are beneficial for protection of your stock wiring system, they're not mandatory.
Well I plugged everything in and quadruple checked my connections. No firing on either of the bulbs. Nothing at all. Tried switching ballasts/bulb pairing, rechecking/seating connections...nothing. Neither lights up. This is quite perplexing, but I came accross some threads online where they say that some cars (including the 8th gen civic) have reversed polarity headlight connections, and that they had to just flip around and solder off the small stub of the plug and everything fired up correctly.
Just curious if any of you have had this issue with our cars? I'm sure the headlight connection/car fuses are ok as the halogens fired up perfectly when I reconnected everything and gave up.
Thanks ahead of time

Most plug and play 9006 kits that I've seen don't come with relays, try flipping the wiring harness plugs upside down, my 4runner I had to flip the wire clips the opposite way from how i thought they should go on, and then they fired right up.

argggg
yeah you're right man, I just compared the 9006 plug wires on this kit and it's opposite of all the ones I see online (positive and negative leads are flipped)
can the plug still go into the car's 9006 plug reversed without filing down the little stub? Or will I have to file it/dremel it down?

ahh I just realized that the inside of the socket on the kit of course has the little 'rib' in the center on one side just like a regular headlight....meaning it only goes in one way and I can't just flip it around and plug in....
so do I just flip the connection to the ballasts? Cuz that means I have to modify the ballast clip

Yes that was where I flipped it sorry I forgot to write that part, flip the connectors to the ballasts that's the only way I got my pnp HID kit to fire up on the runner. I didn't have to modify the clips, just clipped it on backwards

you dont have to mod the ballast clip..... it will fit just plig it in and use some thing to make the 2 black clips clear the metal piece..then it will lock in...

yup...it makes me wonder if they even check the kits before they sell them....
I had over 50 kits and all of them were like that....

thanks a lot guys!! 97 no probs dude, right after your first response made me realize you were right...and all I needed was to use a small pair of tweezers and removed both prong connections on the 9006 plug on the kit and swapped their positions. everything works fine and perfectly now, thanks guys

I run mine with 2 relays...one for each side...very easy to do...get all parts from any auto store...
initially installed without relays but I find the HID are really unstable running off the lower amperage from the stock harness...and with stock harness, the HID fires up with an asthmatic and rice feel to it ...now they fire up like a high quality stock system...

this 6k is actually quite blue/almost purple....very sick from a looks perspective...and still much better than stock. But coming from a retrofit-only history, I feel dirty
