Speedo flick

Hello.
Acura cl3.0 97 AT

my speedometer every now and then flickers, dropping to zero then back up to speed. sometimes this happens, sometimes it doesnt. sometimes it doesnt work at all. untill i come to a stand still, and start move again, then maybe it'll work or not. vary rare that it doesnt work.
I've done some reading and want to know if i would be able to change the sensor on the transmission. or where exactly it would be. DIY as opposed to getting it done in the shop.
thnx

When my alternator was failing/failed, I had the exact same problem - and our cars are notorious for alternator failures. You can check to make sure you're getting at least 13 volts out of it, if not you know it's on the way out.
