Illumination should be orange, but I've never even looked through the harness for it (I only use 4 wires when hooking up a stereo: red (12v switched), yellow (12v constant), black (ground) and blue/white (remote)). If you're looking for the 12v constant, it's yellow.

As for the clock, did you check the connections in the back of clock? I know with the 98/99 dash, if you move the console piece enough, those connections can get loose.

my 97 is the same as matt said I am pretty sure. As far as the clock mine still works also with an aftermarket head unit so it must be the connection in the back came loose when you took the factory head unit out. Those wires seem to have just enough play in them where if you pull on one wire another comes loose

The wiring harness is the same for all years of the CL. The only difference I can think of is the amount of play in the wires behind the clock due to the change in dash style. It's been a long time since I did my buddy's 96 Accord, so I don't remember how much play was in the clock wires in that car. I know the 98/99's have plenty of play (I had my dash apart last night putting in a new hu).

I took mine apart last week to change a burnt out light in the "off" switch on the climate control and there isn't very much play in any wire back in there. If it weren't for the adapter to plug into the original harness making the HU wires longer it would be a real pain to even plug the wires into the original HU because the wires are so tight in there

Yeah, I've cut my harness so many times due to changing head units that I have ~1-2" of wire for the constant, and 2-3" of each for 12v switched and ground. I would have very short wires, but the harness for my new hu is basically new, with only a fraction of an inch cut off. So that gives me plenty of space to move the hu before I even think about stretching wires.

Match colors. I don't know what's so hard about that... Installing a hu is very very easy...
