Question Ok guys why's my sh#@ not starting?

New attarco jdm f22b, new battery same tranny same manifolds same starter and dizzy etc

first start: cranked strong, big spark on drivers side of bay
second: cranked then spark on right side then no power

rechecked all connections found two loose - ground from battery to abs fuse box and 3skinny wires to main underhood fuse box.

All lights fuel pump etc work again, cranks forever, doesn't turn over.

What would you guys check?

buddy jumpered a few of the wires missing from the jdm motor (he thinks crank position sensor?) and now we smell fuel ... but the dizzy seems to be toast. buying one tomororrow and taking back the alternator I got today. argh.

now i'm thinking it's related to internal vs external coil dizzys -- jdm one had 7 wires usdm has 5

Quick question, are you using a different ecu?

If so, and you're a 98+, then it's the imobolizer and you need to reprogram the key to your ecu. If I'm not mistaken, the 97's don't have an imobolizer. Just throwing this out there.

If you're getting fuel, the Immobilizer is not an issue. It will kill the fuel pump IIRC.

I think you're on the right track with the dizzy, JDM engines have different dizzy usually. check your wiring. try an h23 4th gen prelude dizzy, the jdb dohc f22 is a very similar engine.

I know immobolizers cuts power to the starter, ignition, and "sometimes" the fuel. As for what it cuts in our cars, I don't know to be honest. But I do agree with Dicorp it being a dizzy issue. Just wanted to remind him about the immobolizer in case he overlooked it. I think Daniel (playahata) was having this same issue with his h22 swap, and it ended up being the wiring on the distributor as well.

97 cl, dunno the year on the motor ... stock 5spd ECU

ordered a 94 lude si dizzy today from autozone supposed to pick up tomorrow am. seems to be in alignment with what you said - will the connectors work or will I have to cannibalize it to test & then not be able to return it?

finding a lot of similar threads online where the intake manifold ground kept ppl from starting - i dont remember one of those is it there?

you guys rule thanks for the tips.

shop called - they got it running, a little rough needs a valve adjustment. Had to swap the oil pump etc off the usdm motor to convert to obd2a - hit me with a $700 quote, I said nope what are my other options, then he did the work and told me $400. I said WTF i didnt auth that much work do the valve job and I'll pay $450 out the door (includes $49 motor tow and $100 initial diagnosis ... so would have been $1k)

I still think I was soft and got played a little by their screwup. AND i want my car the hell out of there - havent heard the aem v2 i put on in may yet

good to hear, figure they just went off on you like that. when i got my exhaust made, the shop i went to estimated 275$ for parts and another 255$ for labor (3 hours, 85$ an hour) i told them just make the exhaust for me, ill install it myself. they made the exhaust and told me i now owed 550$ for making the exhaust alone... i called bullshit and told them i wasnt paying a dime over the 275$ they initially told me. they said they also went ahead and installed it and wouldnt release my car until i paid for it. i said thats ridiculous, the guy said well hows 375 sound. i agreed and walked out.

Runs like SHIT I made it around the block in 5 stalls and took it back. CEL, 90/105/125/125 psi compression. Suggested I sell with other motor or do that head gasket and put it back in. Called attarco he said "omg we compression test every motor that's horrible I'll have someone go over there and test it in the morning".

Boo.
