Low idel / Car stalling

Having a major issue with my 99 CL 2.3. When I come to a stop and i'm ideling the idel will drop and the car will stall. It seems to happen more so when the engine is cold. I took it to the mechanic, they said all the computer reading said was misfire. He cleaned the idel control arm, changed the spark plugs, new carberator. It's so stange because sometimes I can come to a stop and the car idels fine. Then the next minute I'll come to another stop and the idel drops, car runs really rough and it'll stall. When I start the car sometimes it idels fine in neutral then once I put it into gear the idel drops again! I'll have to hit the gas so the car won't stall. Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Clean the intake plenum, make sure you didn't just get new plugs, but wires as well. If your guy just cleaned the idle air control valve, you should just replace it with a new one, as most people who clean them ( myself included ) end up having to replace it.

Look for the IACV to be changed. If you haven't had a valve adjustment/timing adjustment done in a while, it won't hurt to go ahead a do a full on tune-up.

I have a 97 3.0 cl 242k miles, and once in a while when I go to start the car it will not hold idle. Temp fix is to tap the top of the Throttle Body. Is my Idle control valve going bad?? Thanks

I had the same problem. When I would come to stop light the rev would dip to about 500 rpm, then die. I popped the hood and at the back, directly in the center there's two wires that have two nuts on each one. The wire that is closer to the front of the car controlled the throttle. Mine was fairly loose, so I tightened and problem was solved don't know if it was temp. or what but it worked for me.

this gotta be exhaust issue - if the pipe is rusting there are holes in the pipping and it will loose power and the car will stall not stay on -

1998 Acura stalling at all stops.

My 1998 Acura Cl started overheating and died. I had it towed and the mechanic put new timing belts on, new spark plugs, new water pump, new catalytic converter, new distributer cap, and now it has low idleing and dies if I take my foot off the accelerator, temperture gage goes up too. Oh yea, they put on a new thermostat. Did I get a lemon or is there anything more I can do, scared to go to mechanic again. lol

i know what you mean i used to have that problem too where id have to hold the gas down alittle bit so that ma cl wouldnt stall out at a stop. but after doing a lil tune up to it, spark plug cap rotor ign wires and air filter did the trick for me.

I have had a similar problem with the idle. only my 98 3.0 cl with 117k runs excellent other than when the vehicle is at operating temp and been driven for 15 min or so and then vehicle will not hold idle if it has been sitting for 25 -40 min and I will have to hold the gas pedal to keep it running for about a min then it runs great again. It must be something to do with heat as when the vehicle cools down after 40 min there is no problem. have replaced the IAC and the fuel pressure reg and still have the problem. anyone have a clue what is causing the unique problem???

I just bought a 99 CL with the 2.3 about 2 months ago & had the same issue with the EGR code (+ overheating). So I cleaned the intake manifold (like everyone else seems to do), replaced the T-stat, flushed the coolant & replaced the air filter. The car ran fine for several weeks then the rough start resurfaced - along with an exhaust leak. I changed the front pipes (manifold to cat) & it seemed to run better for a few days (could just be coincidence). Then the rough start came back & I got a cylinder 2 misfire code - so I reset the ECU, replaced plugs & put a can of seafoam in the gas tank. * The previous owner had just replaced the plugs/wires/distributor so I stopped there. The car ran great for about a day then the rough start came back & I'd have to stand on the gas to get it to run. It'd eventually start & run like normal though. So next I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and same thing - the car ran better for a couple days but the rough start is coming back. I guess I'll replace the coil next since I have one but after that I'm not sure which direction to go. If there's a good thread to reference or if someone has experience can you please help out? From looking around it seems these are common problems with these cars. Is it just a never ending battle? From reading other posts these problems don't seem unique - it seems like the breathing and/or fuel delivery is faulty with these cars.
