Help with oil pump '98 3.0

Could sure use help with this; I am doing a rebuild on my 3.0 (just seals), pulled off the oil pump and cleaned it. Noticed a notch on one of the pump rotor flats that engage the crankshaft to turn the rotor. The flats on the crank do not have a notch, but are smooth. What is this notch for, and does it make a difference which way it goes on the crank? I'm thinking maybe allows oil to front seal for lubrication? Need to be sure so I dont put it in the wrong way (that's what SHE said) lol . . . . Sorry. Any input appreciated, as its been almost 2 years and I'm really ready to get my "VTEC-ROD" back on the streets to do some heartbreaking to the Cobalt SS and possibly Subaru WRX crowd! Thanks!!

yeah, it does have to go on a certain way cause obviously that flat spot is what turns the oil pump. if I remember right, make sure the crank is at TDC on cyl#1, and then I think the notched part is up while the flat spot is down.

Pictures to refresh my memory would be helpful.
