distributor problems?
distributor problems?
hey guys
...
so i was driving on the road, and all of a sudden my car just shuts off on the highway...This is like...the 4th time it has happened. Like i'll be driving and i go into a stall for some reason.
It's in 5th gear basically and it just stalls while i drive. I mean i can drive normally, but it's dangerous if i'm on a bridge where i cannot pull over or in an area that has no way for me to stop.
Also, when i start the engine up it starts up fine. My check engine light goes up and stays on. I recently replaced my clutch, and told my mechanic about this, but he hasn't fixed it...I've been told that it could be my distributor that needs replacement or something, but i wanted to see if you guys had any experience in this.
Another key note...the tachometer idles under 1000rpm. is that bad?
distributor FTL?

Do the dash lights (CEL, Alt) stay off when this happens? If yes, then the ignition keyswitch assy is the fault and nothing to do w/ distributor.
If dash lights come on (as they should), then ignition or fuel delivery is the problem.
I would suggest getting the CEL fault code (autozone or other auto parts will check for free). It may provide a clue to your problem.
good luck
