Check engine light

Im getting a 401 code on the OBDII reader should I replace the EGR valve or could it be another issue with emissions? Just bought the car last week. Know nothing about Acura's. I do know its fast!

im going to assume you have a 3.0, and theres a recall for up to 100k miles from the dealer to replace the valve which is usually good and clean out the carbon in the intake manifold which is usually the problem..

Acura now warranties the emissions . So off to the shop she goes! Thanks for the reply, cause it made me research the problem and hopefully gets fixed for free. Now thats cool.

Shows to be EGR valve. car is 97 3.0 with 110k. What to do? Warranty? If no,do I replace or clean? How do I determine which one to do?

Call your dealer and give them the vin number and ask them if you are eligable for the emmissions recall fro the egr/egr passage. If not the question becomes, are you able to remove the intake manifold yourself, drill out the passage that is clogged with carbon and replace the egr yourself. If not get a price on the repair from your favorite repair facility.

Throttle body and intake you can clear with spray cleaner. EGR you have to pull off the intake manifold to remove, and drill out the gunk and clean.

At acura they said that it wouldn't work because you need to drill out the carbon...and actually cleaning the egr valve would not be necessary 'cause thats not what is wrong...its the port...?

That's correct, the only way to clean out the carbon, as I said, is to pull the upper intake and egr and drill out the carbon.

You asked how o clean the throttle body and intake also, that you can do with throttle body spray cleaner.
