ABS problems
ABS problems
I was experiencing vibrations in the steering wheel when driving over 120 km/h... I knew the time to replace my brakes was coming up so I figured it was the rotors.
Took it into a local mechanic who was highly recommended (albeit NOT by acura owners)and sure enough he told me to replace my front pads n rotors. So I got that, my timing belt and water pump all done at the same time (timing had to be done too)...
figured that would solve all my problems. $900 later I'm still vibrating... so I take it back and he looks it over and says its my rear pads/rotors.
Fine.
replace those too.. $250.
A day later I'm driving and my ABS light kicks on...
Its not always on...just comes on randomly - not like some other ppl on here that only see it at certain speeds. And I do notice that it randomly kicks in when I brake too...on completely dry pavement and at low speeds in a non-panicked braking situation.
I also have a high pitched squealing noise when I brake.
I've been searching the forums and so far the best post I've seen similar to my situation is
I'm just about to take my car back...and I'm wondering if anyone has any other advice/insight...?

i hadnt had any problems with the ABS light before i got my brakes done (except it would occasionally come on for a second when i broke real hard) but i had the rotors replaced and new pads put on, along with new calipers. they also bled the brakes.
well i was driving it a day later when both hubs came off the rotors (because i guess it wasnt pressed on good enough) and it ended up spinning around the axle and it broke off one of the sensors. They replaced it for me and since then i have had this problem with the ABS light going off around 70mph or so. I just had the master brake cylinder replaced too because it had no pressure and didnt hold pressure when i was stopped. now my brakes are working great, i stop great, but the damn light keeps coming on after 70mph....its really pissing me off.... guess its back to the shop. who knows maybe the other sensor is messed too.

How are your tires/alignment? Goto any tire place and describe the vibrations at high speed and they mostly will point to either tires/alignment. Steering wheel vibration from faulty brakes/rotors mostly occur when braking hard at high speeds.
The squeals are probably from the mechanic not lubricating the shims on the brake pads.
Do you know what ABS code the car is throwing?
There's a blue service check connector (2-wire) located on the passenger side under the dash below the glove compartment. I believe it's plugged into a dummy socket (forgot).
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Then connect a paperclip/wire to the Connect the Service Check Connector. The Service Check Connector is on the front passenger side above the kick panel.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Make sure NOT to have the brake pedal depressed. Having the brake pedal depressed will start the DTC erasure procedure.
The ABS indicator light comes on for about two seconds then goes off for about 4 seconds. Then the ABS light will indicate each DTC using slow blink(s) (1.3sec) followed by fast blink(s) (0.3sec).
For example a DTC of 4-2 (or 42), will have 4 slow blinks then 2 fast blinks.
There is a 3 to 4 second pause between each DTC. The ABS system can hold multiple DTCs. So supposed you had 3 DTC of 21, 12, 11; Your ABS light will react as the following:
Ignition ON (II)
- Bulb check (6 seconds)
- 4 sec pause
DTC 2-1 (or 21)
- 2 slow blinks
- 1 fast blink
- 4 sec pause
DTC 1-2 (or 12)
- 1 slow blinks
- 2 fast blink
- 4 sec pause
DTC 1-1 (or 11)
- 1 slow blinks
- 1 fast blink
- 4 sec pause
