Tranny question...

Alright I don't THINK this has been asked before... Let me just start off by saying I don't know shit about transmission parts. Now that you know that:

I read some post that said someone replaced their... oil filter switch or some kind of switch on the transmission itself. It supposedly fixes the problem where the auto transmission shifts hard ONLY from first to second but shifts very smooth in all the rest of the gears?

I searched and didn't find anything. Any guesses or maybe a correction on the name of the part that I'm talking about?

Yea I just found the post where we talked about it.

Wanna try a DIY this weekend.

So it's the oil pressure switch. Just wondering if a local brake/transmission store could do that kind of work, or if that's even a valid modification?

Sorry but I want to bump this because I'm still curious. Should I just talk to an Acura specialist or an oil shop?

Wish I could help, but I haven't heard of anything like it. Try honda tech too.

I have heard of this issue, the 2 main electrical pieces that go bad on the tranny are the oil pressure switch and the torque convertor, however having said that, I must point out that the major defect in our trannies is the rear bearings in the tranny, they break off and move around inside the gears chewing gears which causes the majority of the damage to the tranny that forces repairs, but I have read the same info that you posted that the ops could possibly help with that specific issue however i caution you that it is not the end all, fix all for the auto trannies

So... which one should be replaced? Heh... I'm running into a lot of dead ends no one has any idea what an oil pressure switch is or what it does--not even the stealership. I guess they could have fucked up when putting the tranny fluid in my car and not used honda ATF...

Is it even worth bringing by the transmission shop and having them check it out or am I just in for a big disappointment and a large bill?

I dont think either parts discussed are servicable. Have you changed your fluid recently? how many miles are on the car/tranny?

I haven't done the oil pressure switch thing yet, but the shop who told me about it said thats a good place to start. He one of the main caused of hard shifting is the switch. The switch cost about $75 and mabye 1 hr labor ($80 and up) to replace it.

They don't have to drop the tranny to change it?

Is this oil pressure switch the same thing as the clutch pressure switch? I remember there being multiple of those on the tranny.

There is two of them; one on the front and one on the back.

The lady from the stealership actually said to me, "If you have a small hand you could change the front one but the back one you have to drop the tranny"

Did you try removing the distributor cap? The switch towards the back (#13) looks like it's right under it . The front one (#14) is most likely accessible by removing the battery (similar to the 3.0). Since you only experience harsh shifts between 1->2, you may also want to look into the Shift Control Solenoid Value C (#12).

#14 3rd Clutch Pressure Switch

Not to change the subject, but is this the same problem that happens when starting out in the morning and the transmission wants to do neutral drops when starting out from a stop during the first couple miles? Both my CLs do this sometimes.
