I have a 99 Acura CL 3.0 and over the winter the Check Engine light has come on. Its as solid amber light (not flashing). I have over 100K miles on it.

I took it to Advance Auto Parts and they let me use their Engine Computer Code Scan for free. One tip to anyone with a 99 CL, the plug socket to check the code is located behind the compartment tray in between the two seat heater switches.

The code came up as "P1491 Manufacturer Control Auxiliary Emission Controls." Searching this forum came up with a possible EGR valve problem.

Can any First Gen. CL owners having this same code confirm that this is the problem? If so how much $ should I expect the fix to be?

Since my car has over 100K miles and is over 8 years old, would I qualify for any kind of product recalls from Acura?

 

definitely sounds like the EGR, I don't think the 99's are included in the extended warranty for the egr but it would be worth checking at least. There's a diy on here somewhere, first thing I'd try is removing it (2 bolts) and cleaning it out with carb cleaner, also try to clean around the port on the valve cover as well
