97 CL Overheating...any ideas?
My Acura 2.2 CL overheats when I put the air conditioning on. The weird thing is that it only does this some of the time. I took the Acura to a dealership and they told me that it was one of the fans. I replaced the broken fan and it still overheats! When I flushed the radiator, I noticed that there were paper-like fibers collecting under the radiator cap. I don't know if this is related or not...but the whole thing is completely crazy!! Does anyone have any advice?
PACL97:
My CL was over heating yesterday but all I had to do was put in more anti-freeze. I did in the past though have to put in a new thermostat myself from strauss for $15 and I have yet to change the water pump and hope I don't have to.
I know I have not been helpful but... what the hell its a forum for info.

Overheating when AC is on suggests cooling fan is not running. Make sure the fans are running all the time when AC is on. A fan can be intermittent.
Other things to check.
1) Thermostat - a good candidate as already suggested.
2) Very dirty condensor and/or radiator. Additional AC heat load pushes system into overheating.
3) Loss of coolant - I've had tiny leaks on several occasions that only became apparent when engine would try to overheat. Check hoses and radiator carefully.
4) Bad head gasket - This can cause coolant to backup in the reservoir and overflow, followed shortly by oveheat on engine.
good luck

pray it's not the headgasket, had the same prob but it was 100+ outside. stat changed/flushed radiator/ added coolant and i was good to go.but yeah def check fans.always check simplest solutions first, your prob may not be as complicated as you think...
if you replace the fan you really dont need to replace the whole thing, just the fan mator. It will cause half as much. I replaced my fan motor for $40 and a whole new fan would have been $100. All you get with the whole fan is just a new frame. its not worth it.
