To start off, you need to find the wire grommet, on the 3.0 it's to the right pictured above, on the 2.x it's on the left below the glove box, look straight down from the top of the engine bay by the firewall and you should see the rubber grommet that the stock wires go through into the dash.

Pictured above to the right, I have one 4 AWG wire running through there, I am running the second (Coiled red wire by the battery.)


Pictured is the grommet on the 3.0 that you push out to run the wire through. There are 2 choices, you can either poke a hole in the rubber to run the wire through or you can pop the rubber grommet out and run it underneath, this is what I did, just make sure to tape off the metal bottom part of the hole so that it doesn't cut into your wires. Here is a pic with my existing wire run through, this wire is for my bass amp.

Here is a pic of the 3.0 wire grommet with 2 x 4 AWG wires coming through, on the 3.0 they're located driectly above the pedals on the left side, next to the fuse box. (pictured)


I run the wires behind the fuse box, and under the hood latch release, and then under that into the carpet. Shown here, coming out and going behind fuse box.


Trim pushed out, snaps right back in, this shows the wires run under the hood latch trim and coming out under the door sill. I removed the door sill by popping it up gently.


I ran both my 4 guage wires under the carpet on the driver's side. I also ran the trigger wire from my head unit along the top of the carpet trim. The white plastic clips back onto the metal door frame.


You can peel back the rubber weather-stripping in the back corner of the door frame and run the wire through there underneath the plastic trim, and pull it out and run the wire under the edge of the seat, retrieving it from the inside of the carpet on the inside of the trunk by pulling it back. I run my wires along the outside edge so it pops out by the shock tower. From there you can run it however you want.

For a ground, I have tapped half a dozen ground points, and the best and most reliable ground in the trunk is the shock tower bolts that hold the shock and coil spring. If you have questions pm me. And good luck

P.S. Do you still have the capacitor that was on my subs? Its cuttin out like mad and that should help it correct?

Ryan, no the cap was fried, was suited for your amp, someone else killed it.

Thats exactly the route I took with all my other rides, just couldn't seem to find a decent place to run through the firewall, thanx everyone! My goal is to run it back and connect via distrbution block...2 or 3 amps and 6x9s with an 8 or 10" sub....details to come

Have you ran cables through any car?
It's pretty much the same process in any car.

a grommet is universal. look for a black rubber seal thing on the fire wall.

and then for the most part, it's removing trim to run the cables then placing the trim back on top of the ran cable.

and then it will be mostly personal preference or ease of access on how it's ran in the engine bay. like if you wanted to take the time to hide the big ole fat colored cable to make it look more factory, of if you go the lazy route and just throw the cable on top.

 

No, I haven't done any of that which is why I was consulting this thread. I believe I located the grommet in question under the driver side footwell near the fuse box but the pictures in this thread are missing. Just wanted to make sure it was the same one. Also I was going to try and make good with a bent up coat hanger and my power wire just taped to it but is there another more reliable way to feed the wire through?

 

a grommet is just a black rubber pass through...there may be many grommets on the fire wall. there may be only one. choose the best one to your knowledge that will get you through the firewall.

it doesnt even have to be the same one blackack used...just any grommet that will take your cable. black ack chose to run the cable underneath the grommet instead of passing it through the grommet. because maybe his cable was too thick to pass through the middle of the grommet.

one could even drill through the firewall and then buy a grommet to pass the cable through.

you could buy a professional "fishing cable rod" but totally not needed as the run isnt very long. the coat hanger will work
