Ok, so I've done some searches, but couldn't really find the answer im looking for.... I used a hairdryer, once the badge was hot, it was then peeled, heated the "gum" still left over from it, peeled it off by hand, then I used some goo-off, cleaned it, then I used an orbital buffer, which is garbage, with some 3m rubbing compound, wiped off, then used some polish again with some meguiars polish. the "ghost" on the acura badge and the 3.0 CL badge is completely gone, but there is still an almost perfect outline of both of them.
Could it be possible that for some reason, that the badge was taken off completely, but some residue was still left on it, and was cleared over? I've done a little bit of body work, but with wet sanding and buffing I'm not sure which grit to use. Has anyone else had this problem? You can definatly still feel the outlines of both badges, but it seems impossible to get off... I also have a high-speed buffer, should I try that, before wet-sanding and buffing? heeeelp!

 

mine has an outline like that too..
dunno why its there or how to fix it, just know you're not the only one..

 

Yea mine is like that too, theres little cracks in the paint that make a perfect outline of it.

I debadged mine and you can't tell its there.

First was removing the badge with a screw driver. Removed the left over adhesive with 3m Adhesive remover and a plastic razer. Hit it with a clay bar a few times when i was detailing the CL. Finished with a few passes with a Porter Cable Random orbital buffer with a yellow pad and Optimum hyper compound. Second pass with Optimum polish and yellow pad. You cant tell it was ever there, no fading or outlines or scratches.

 

i did mine and i never had a ghost line:

- heat up with hair dryer
- take off emblems w/ dental floss
- heat up again and credit card the excess glue
- goo gone till its clean
- wash/wax

good to go..

what happens is that dirt gets into the edges of the badges and mixed with water and over time it rots the paint. Seems to be worse for cars that are usually kept in the sun.

 

Just noticed this yesterday for mine, it's SO hard to see though, it's just an imprint left in the paint. It'll be gone when i repaint, but i think u'll be ok. It's really hard to see

 

yeah, you can HARDLY see it, oh well....

 

Dude, I removed mine like 14 months ago, and JUST for the first time saw the shadow, so I think you'll be ok

 

i know mine's alot more noticable cuz i have white paint and the rotted edge thing shows up as a black outline, so i guess it depends on what paint you have

i'm white/debadged i used laq thinner and compound,like black, you have to have the right light/angle to see my "ghost letters".you gotta put elbow grease to getting the excess crap off. remember our cars are AT LEAST 6-7 years old.

well I took another look at it, and it is scratched, but you can't see it unless you're looking for it. I've been debating on throwing a carbon trunk on the CL or not. that'd be the first mod to it haha.

i dont like my car without the spoiler but thats besides the point...anyways if youre up for some work...just wet sand it a little then buy some custom paint and spray it right on....then use the rubbing compound they give you and youre good to go it should look seemless

same happened to my trunk wen i debadged, still got the scratches and you can clearly see it..i'm thinking about repainting the whole car anyways since i just picked up a front lip and got tons of scratches and dents in the car..its cuz our car is old now and like a few said sitting out in the sun it probably just bakes on to the paint

 

people said to bondo then paint the holes with the little bottle of paint u get at the shops. some say don't bondo, it will crack. im getting mixed responses. can some one clairify it for me, thanks

 

if you apply too much bondo at once, when it dries it shrinks and cracks or at least can. Another option(the way I would do it) is to use some fiberglass on the inside of the trunk, so when you apply the bondo, it has something to stick to and you wont have to use much at all.

That being said, I like the trunk with just the acura symbol. For some input into the original thread, I debadged, use a cleaning wax, than adhesive remover, rubbing compound, compound wax, followed by a conventional wax and I still have ghosts. I think the color of the car has something to do with it.

 

Ok guys pull of the acura sign thats first. Get rid of the left over adhesive . Even if the line is still there and you have tried rubbing it out IT CAN BE REMOVED. Its tricky Be VERY careful. (you dont want to go threw the paint) You will need 1200 grit WET sand paper. 3M is your best bet. Your going to very softly and with long back and forth strokes sand down the clear, keep it very wet. Every few strokes dry it and see if its still there. If you repeat is should slowly disapear. Then use an orbital polisher and some 3M Compound to polish the paint back up to a nice new shine.

 

hey, has anyone tried that turtle wax, that comes in different color shades for different color cars. i think it comes in black red and green. it also comes with a wax type applicator called a chip stick, i was thinking of giving it a go at my black 98 and i think it might make the ghosting on the acura emblem a little less noticeable

yea i took mine off and the outline is still there and i think some of the adhesive

 

The shadow goes away if you buff it with some rubbing compound, but make sure you get all the adhesive off

 

I did all of the above mentioned, but used some acetone/nail polish remover and it got the crap off, and left nothing behind..Followed up with a wash and wax...

 

i did the same and i still have the outlines of the lettering there - might be because the paint underneath is better preserved. anything i can do outside of sandpapering it?

Debadged mine today. Used goo gone but I had an outline of glue and a slight ghost. Used diamond cut compound (meguiars) and it came right out. Didnt even use a buffer, just a microfiber cloth and a little muscle. Cleaned it up with cleaner wax, looks perfect
