Window regulator/motor replacement

I have read the DIY guide, and am pretty confident about the replacement. The problem is... The window only goes down about 4 inches. What do you guys suggest as far as changing out the regulator? I have treid forcing it down, but it doesn't want to go. The way it looks, I have to get the window down to replace it. Correct?

There are some access openings in the inner door frame (after removing door panel) to allow the window to be disconnected from the regulator. If the window is not sufficiently aligned w/ holes to access the bolts, and window regulator is frozen, you have a significant problem.

In any case you will need an Acura shop manual to guide this job. There are a number of cautions about marking retaining nuts to allow proper reinstallation of the window and regulator.

If regulator drive motor is accessible, you may be able to remove the drive motor and free the door to move. This disengages the worn gear from the drive and should allow the regulator to move. I'm not sure if you can access the motor. It' looks doubtful in my 2.5TL manual.

good luck

my window died and could only roll down ~2" i just used a few hand wrenches, and reached all the way up there and slowly started to undo the two bolts holding the window up. i think its was either 10mm or 12mm. Just go slow and prepared to get a bunch of that grease on you.

I think Klepto has the fix. You may have to be creative to reach those retaining bolts, but window has to come out some way.

good luck

yea, just take your time, prepared to get dirty and it helps to have somewhere there to hold up the window for you

Where to get the regulator for my '98 3.0?

Hi, Where do you suggest I get a new window regulator form my 1998 3.0cl? My drivers side window regulator just went out last night. In my search for a new one I come to find that the 4 cylinder has a different regulator. I can't seem to find any aftermarket or discounted ones for the 3.0 - not even on ebay (I can't stand to pay full price!).

If anyone knows were I can get one at a relatively good price please do tell.

Thanks,
Mikerider

I have had good luck finding local used parts w/ car-part.com. The search engine will find parts near your zip code.

good luck

you know if you didnt mind..... you could use a lock cutter and cut one of the cables on the regulator from the motor and it would hypothetically drop down. i think.
