i started my CL today (after a few weeks of not using it) and the engine began to rev like I was tapping the gas...

it would rev up and come back down and rev up again and this would keep repeating.

the check engine light is on as well.

any thoughts?

so do i let it sit?

or should i restart the ECU (IE...unplug the battery)

 

get your light checked first to make sure thats it before you reset it...then..if it is..reset....if it comes back..then the ICV is messed up

 

how do i get my chceck engine light checked?

all i got from the manual was to make sure the gas cap was turned at least 3 clicks.

 

well heres some more info, as it was my dad who first started up the car today.

he said that when he first started the car, it did what i described but the gas pedal wouldnt respond..he'd press, and he'd get no acceleration.

so i just unhooked the battery for like 5 mins and after doing so, and letting the car do its wierd idle for like 2 mins, the check engine light went away, and the gas pedal now responds. but the car still idles weird (in park) and when we're not braking, the car gains speed (without the accelerator)...

im thinking to unhook the battery once again, this time longer, and letting the car idle for like 10 mins. hopefully this will solve things.

any input would be appreciated.

 

well if your check light went on...then bring it to a parts store or a friend that has one of those connectors that reads you out the problem...sorry forgot whats its called.....but it should link up to the back of the ash tray.....pull the ash tray out and you'll see like a computer input.....! some suggestions.....

 

well the check engine light turned off after i removed and replaced the gas tank cap and "reset" the ECU.

 

i think ur check engine light will come back on. cuz when i had it on, it would go away n the light will come back again later.

 

Maybe your idle air valve? I had that problem in my Integra. Do the revs go up and down or just stay in one position?

 

when i first start the car...it would go right up to 2000rpms...then it would drop to about 1500 and rev up to 2000 and drop back to 1500 and back up to 2000...and it would repeat.
