I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I'm currently attending UConn, and thefts happen around here occasionally, and I'm getting my system installed in about 2 weeks. I guess the only thing we can do is invest in a good car alarm and part in a well lit area.

Make sure those windows are F***ing dark! Then they won't see the TV unless they're already inside. Also if you have a system, be careful where you bump! I always turn my system off when I get to my apartments, just incase some thug is listening. (even though they are gated, you never know)

I was worried about it at first but after awhile I forgot about it. I use to close the screen but now I just leave it up all the time. When it's closed, it just looks like a regular deck.

No matter how dark tint you have, if its nighttime, and the tv is on, people will see it. When i get kinda close to whatever club i'm going to, i ll flip the screen back into the dash. i dont want anyone seeing that i have one in there. Same thing with my system, i ll turn it down like i dont even have one. also be careful who you show your car off to. i always try to park close to some lights, or a walkway where people always are, not in some far off area. and i got a killer alarm also. but in the end, its a risk you have to take, if someone wants your shit, they're gonna get it.

I keep my screen closed whenever I am in an area where I'm going to park...apt. complexes, bars etc. I have dark tint and I put up the sunshade thing on my front window almost all the time, it makes it even darker inside. I also have the viper responder with a perimeter sensor, so if someone were to come up close to a window to look in for example, it gives warning beeps until they go away, or it goes off. I'm usually pretty close to my car too so it beeps on the keychain thing and I can come out and check it out.

Just make sure you have a good alarm and it has some visual indicator...flashing lights or whatever.

if you are asking about the viper responder...I paid 440 for the alarm with installation, perimeter, glass break sensor, extended warranty on the remote (I guess its real expensive if you lose it or bust it, for $30 the shop will give me a new one anytime I want), and 8% arizona sales tax.

Does anyone know the name of the alarm that has a knock sensor on the front windshield? You knock on this circle and you can leave a voice message. It came out a couple years ago but don't know what it's called.

What kinda cheap @ss screens do you guys have? My Alpine closed itself.

Side note...you guys do know that our factory alarms are Alpine, right?? I dunno if you add to them or not, but I would think so. What else do you need anyway? Shock sensor?

My pioneer was stolen 2 weeks ago. I would tint the windows if I was you too, If anything it holds the glass together so it doesn't all go in your car.

you can set any screen to open/close with the ignition, or only to move when you hit a button. i set mine to manual so it only closes when I want it to.

and I got my aftermarket alarm for shock sensor, perimeter motion sensor, 1/4 mile range, and the pager remote.
