Whining noise

I'm getting a whining-like noise. I can hear it the most when the car isn't moving. I can hear the whine when its idling, and as I accelerate, the whining gets louder and louder to an extent. I do not have an aftermarket intake, but I have added a "custom" ram air tube that runs from the stock air intake to the front of the car. I have had this on for 3 years and had no problems. The noise only started a few weeks ago. Any ideas???

thanks

Turn off the stereo and see if it dissapears. Sometimes it can cause interference. Also check to see if you have any exhaust leaks or holes. Hope that helps.

my pcv valve wines at idle. there was a recall on this. for rerouting the hose. what i did to find it was move the pcv valve at the top while it was running and if it changes pitch then that is ur problem.

I shut off the stereo and the noise was still there. I'm pretty sure its not stereo related. I still have to look into that pcv valve. The only problem with this is that the noise is best heard from inside the car. I've opened the hood and listened close to the engine and its hard to hear. I've also shut off the ventilation (air/heat) to see if its the fan making the noise, but this is not the case.

I did have some work done on it, but the reason why I didn't say anything was because the whining noise started a couple of weeks before I had the work done. I put a waterpump, timing belt, a few other belts, distributor cap, wires... It does sound like something to do with the belts/fan just because of how the sound increases when I accelerate.

i mguessing tranny

cuz when i installed my short shifter into my IS300, the transmission whining can be heard when accelerating.

I'm not saying that you have a short shifter or something, but that maybe the sound dampening thing module piece of thing might be malfunctioning or something.

your noise

Hey I have a 97 3.0 cl and the whirring noise you are hearing may be that your alternator is going bad. Mine just went out the other day after I too noticed that this whirring noise was getteing worse and worse. You might want to get that checked untill you break down.
~Juice, Good luck
