what should I start with?

I was just wondering what I can/should do to my little CL. 97 2.2, Auto. Any suggestions? I've seen plenty of postings on this subject, but most of the postings are in regards to the 3.0, or manual trans.

So I'm looking for help. Any help. I've got some money, but I want to do mods that won't destroy the car in less than 40K miles. I wouldn't mind a turbo, but doesn't that hurt the engine?

I know the post is long, but just a little more. What sort of mods are needed to add a turbo? Is it worth it on an auto?

Any pointers/tips would be appreciated.

I'd start with underdrive pulleys and a cold air intake. If you cant do both, go with the later.

Turbos.....major modifcations and if youre worried about your engine try starting with exhaust/headers/other bolt ons. Turbos are a good way to go for hp/$, but its somewhat uncharted territory for 2.2cls to my knowledge.

Lowering- I have the Eibach Pro-Kit on mine, I think that HR also makes springs. I have heard of people putting on coilovers, but I'm not sure of the brand. You can also get strut bars (lots of brands will fit)and shocks. (personally, I would go with Koni)

Engine- I wouldn't go with a turbo mainly because of the auto, and you seemed to be worried about hurting your engine. If a turbo isn't tuned right, it can hurt your engine. But it can also drastically improve performance if tuned correctly. You will need a lot of extras, such as intercooler, blowoff valve, etc...... to make it run good. I would stick to I/H/E. I'd go with AEM intake, Comptech header and Comptech exhaust. Hope this helps you with some names on companies but always do your research!!!
If you get real itchy about more HP look into some NOS. Hope this helps.

if u r seroius about a turbo i would think about selling ur engine and tranny and getting an h22 prelude engine and 5spd. it will be very reliable and last a long time unlike a turbo. but i have a 97 2.2 auto and the best mod i did was my cai and header. pullies and exhaust are nice also. tranny cooler is next then igntion.i would like to get at least 150hp to my wheels for now and then come 2004 engine swap. it is possbible socher got 148 i believe, but he does have a 5spd.

if you do a turbo with an automatic then you dont get the cool blow-off valve sound.
someone above said prelude engine with 5spd. i think that's the best way to go, good driveability and reliability. nice and quick too.

you can get a phat stereo system ...i could hook you up with one !!!! oh and lower your car and get an intake and pullies and headers...but if ur going to spend more than 2500 for bolt ons...try doing a H22a engine swap...i plan on doing that later...

About how much would a h22a swap be?
Need to buy the tranny too right?

Maybe I'll drain all the oil out of my car just to blow the motor and have an excuse o buy one.
