I've noticed this since beginning of summer. Why is there so much exhaust smoke commin out of my car? Even on warm days. It's turning my rear bumper next to the exhaust black. Does anyone else have this problem? What is goin on? Help!

 

what color is the smoke? if it is blue, your head gasket might either be blown or on it's way

 

White..it kinda looks like the shit comin from ur car when it's cold out. It might be normal....I just don't see others smokin as much as mine....I'm taking it in for a Emissions check up next weekend. Did any other 1997 CL owners get the post card for this checkup?

 

white means its running too lean on fuel i think.. or too rich either or.. if its black smoke its a blown ring.. and if its blue its burning oil

 

Yeah man my shit does the white smoking thing too sometimes...usually when its real humid or cold out, but it does it at anytime really. I just had the o2 sensor replaced and i havent noticed it as much...car had a complete check up and is perfect....runs its ass off so i wouldnt worry too much unless the smoke is black or blue.

 

My exhaust gets black on the outer rims after a couple of days after washing, but never seen anything through the rearview or on the bumper.

P.S. I dont have a cat anymore and havnt seen that.

 

i got the notice about emmisions also. i already passed emmisions before the notice. i didnt get a chance to read the notice, was it supposed to be a note that our cars might not pass the test or what?

 

I think I'd get laughed out of the dealer with my mods. The O2 sensor hanging out in the open may give me away. I know the other mods WILL affect my emissions, so I pitched the letter in the round file.

 

IF you read the letter you'd find that at 75,000 miles you can take it in to the dealer and they'll replace the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, do an oil change for FREE.
At 50,000 mi you can take it in for a free emissions checkup and any things that need changing are free. I'll bet anything that they replace some certain part on any car that does choose to come in.

The notice is for a 5yr Aniver. check up on all 97 Acuras (CL,RL,Teg..etc.... I think it would be wise to take advantage of the notice since it's all for free.....under some 14yr emmisons warr. and pretty much what Nomad said.
