lol i just noticed your budget, i would go with a sony xploid then since it doesnt look like you want to be really serious about audio but more like something that just plays loud enough.

you only want an ALpine if yore willing to spend some money... their low-end stuff kinda sucks, buy Pioneer in that bracket, but I definately prefer ALpne over pioneer in the top end price bracket past around 300 bucks or so

I should have gotten a Pioneer headunit
I have 2 pioneer 6x9's and 2 4in Pioneer door speakers and 2 10'' Pioneer subs.
Sadly I have a Panasonic headunit.

The lower end Pioneer's sound great, if you are going to buy used I would try to get my hands on an older Alpine, great sound. I have a CDA-9853 currently and if you want to spring a bit more you can usually find them for around 100 bucks on ebay. I like the sound of it and plenty of EQ settings, just a pain in the ass if you are not used to alpine. The only down side is if you have an iPod you need to buy the older kca-420i adapter which will run you like 50 bucks.. and for 150 you can buy yourself a brand new pioneer w/ ipod cable.

If you are near a bestbuy, they just put out all the 08 models so you could prolly pick up some clearance decks for cheap, or even the old display models... In my store we liquidated them all for about 50% off new in box.. even more for some of the displays.

x2 for an older alpine 9850 series, the 9853s and the 9855s are great units, Im running a 9855 right now and my brother has a 9853 in his Tiburon, I honestly dont know how I made it without GlideTouch for so long, but I know I cant go back to plain old buttons

and the iPOd thing is only a problem if you wanna run a n iPOd, im using my Ai-NET to run my CHA-S634 and I love it, much better than iPod interface. and sure even if you paiy for the full KCA-420i (which is more in the line of 100 bucks, I just sold mine on eBay for 90 bucks), youre still ending up with an Excelent deck with features that little 150 dollar Pioneer can only Dream of having

Yeah I regret not purchasing the 9855 at the time.. but glidetouch is a dream and only comes on Alpine's $1800 model that I have seen recently.

yeah the DVA-9865 I believe it was, its the only one left really with a fully motorized flip face, glide touch and the only Alpine with a full color Biolite, granted its not a full LCD, but its still badass.... but at 1600 I can have a full ALpine Touch screen LCD monitor with Nav

I'll have to say Alpine.

Pioneer is good.

but Alpine is superior in my mind.
