Weapon*R secret weapon install

I'm seriously considering a Weapon*R Secret Weapon intake for my 2.2cl (as it is stock right now except for wheels and tires cause I just got it). If anyones installed one in theirs, how difficult was it? What kind of gains did you see? If there's a better intake out there for the price, lemme know... thanks guys

I have the weapon r secret weapon on my 99 2.3CL. The installation was simple just bolted right on. It give the car a nice sound and it looks clean.

Is there much of a performance increase with an intake?

it helps a little. Alone, you'll get a bit of a performance increase and agressive sound from the intake.

It works better after a header and exhaust upgrade too. Not amazing performance increases, but it helps.

by installing a new, higher flow intake, your car will be taking in alot more air. however, on the stock exhaust, it may not be able to get rid of it quickly enough to be very efficient.

It will help, but not much.

By upgrading your header and exhaust, you'll help increase the flow of air leaving the engine... I think you can get the image im trying to give here, no?

the sound is all the matters, because either way us 4bangers are still gonna be slow.

Thanks guys. Im planning on getting exhaust and headers if and when I get enough money, which may be a while. Who makes the best ones at a fairly reasonable price?

btw
the performace effect of an intake it is minor (2-5hp if that). i was wondering i heard intakes are most felt top end and actually hurt you in low end.

it depends on what intake you get... a Short Ram Intake is supposed to help with torque a bit. I have a feeling the shorter amount of time it takes air to get to the engine is the reason for this... However, the downside to that is that you're sucking up hot air from the engine bay so thats not helping with combustion (colder air = better combustion.)

A cold air intake is said to be better for top end power. Colder air = better combustion...

Let me just say I'm no book on how CAI's and SRI's really work, but thats the general idea ive picked up over the past year and a half or so.

Couldnt have said it better.

BUT you can get one off of ebay and get a K&N air filter and still be cheaper than what the AEM and Injen are.

then there no point in getting an intake at all then , because either way your still slow, so you might as well buy what looks and sounds better.

Not neccessarily. Any intake is gonna give you the sound. They are also gonna help your gas mileage a little bit. Any intake you get isnt gonna give you like 10 hp. It aint gonna happen. It just comes down to how name brand happy you are. If the name is worth 160 bucks to you, then go for it. I know I could care less what the pipe looks like.
You could even paint the intake if you want.
