w type wagon rear mod help.....

I'm getting my w type wagon rear pretty soon, i ordered it last minute and didn't really think about it. Today i just realize that my liscense plate is real low. The reason im asking for advice is that, my friend that is painting my car doesn't know how to deal with cutting and molding back on polyurethane. Can anybody give me little instructions or tips that would make this job any easier?? How do you deal with the liscense plate??? juss cut it??? and then what??

^ put it this way you should take it to a professional that makes and fabricates custom kits. The way I've done mine was to cut in half, shave down the area of the top of the lip flat, rivet, fiberglass filler, flexing glazing puddy to fill low parts, prep, paint. It's pretty hard, and involved.

oh yeah i forgot, it's the newer model. See that's the thing, i did do a search on this and some said it will work after you cut sections in the middle and glued or mold back on and it will be not too much modifications, so if that is the real case, i believe my boy can do it. He's a pro i think he would do alright....

You'd be better off trying to find a nice fiberglass lip. It be way easier to work with. Polyurethane sucks. I tried 3 different methods befor I finally got it rite.

My main problem in the begining was not to mold it. This was because If I sold the car, I didn't want to have to replace the whole rear bumper. Anyway you look at it, for strength, the lip needs to be riveted, screwed directly to the bumper then filled in place to keep shape.
