VAFC and Autotimer installed
VAFC and Autotimer installed
Did this install a couple of weeks ago. Just now getting pics.
Put both units in the glove box to keep a stock look.
Neat toys. 3000 vtec engagement
Idling with no keys in ignition.
The timer is pretty useless now but its got an O2 sensor tap so you can monitor A/F ratios. When I dyno tune the VAFC, I'll check its accuracy.

Looks good, did you notice any difference with the apexi?

I've been playing around with it. You cant really do much with it unless you dyno. I've leaned out a few areas based on post dyno runs and think it was worth the $220 I spent on it.
I'll post dyno results once I get em. Waiting for the FMAX turbo so I can do the tuning all at once.
If youre staying normally aspirated I would do this as one of my laast mods. I.E. spend your money elsewhere if you dont have an exhaust/header/intake/ etc.

i was told by countless people the the apexi vtec controller is worthless because no one knows how to operate them plus they come with japanese instructions.i rather put the money into the zex nitrous kit for$450,ya know---onedayzpay
You can tune it yourself on a dyno w/ a wideband O2 sensor. The instructions are in english on the Apexi site in pdf format.
If your going with NOS you better get some kind of fuel management or save your pennies for a rebuild.

They're on there all the time.
For those that say they dont know if they're worth it, its usually the fact that they dont understand how the VAFC operates. This thing is almost infinately adjustable and worth every penny. The question is....do you need it.

I gave up on my vafc. I couldn't get the dam thing to work on my car. I would set vtec to kick at 5000 rpm and then my engine wouldnt rev past 5000 rpm and my check engine light would come on. I ended up taking it off for now.
niedejb did you install it like the updated apexi instruction say with the VTM wire connected? Maybe I coonected something wrong but I checked over 100 hundred times. I called apexi and they said that it will not work on 4 cylinder accords, which is what we have. If its not to much trouble would you mind posting the colors of the wires that have to be spliced? Looks good in your glove box, I had mine under my head unit were there used to be a storage compartment.

Didnt use apexi's info. Used my service manual. BTW, we dont have a VTM wire in our cars.
Email me and I'll let you know what wires go where.

Lots of Honda guys think the VAFC is some silly device that lets you change where the VTEC changes cam profiles. Not true. It's much more useful to lean or richen the mixture at specific points in the rev range, like nied. said.
You can tune it without a dyno though. Bring a friend to watch the EGT and A/F gauges (need em) while you do a full throttle run down a deserted street in 3rd. Keep on tweaking your AFC until the A/F is stoichiometric and the EGTs are around 1400 deg F.
That's what I've been doing on my last 2 Subarus, it works great. I really can't believe people are using nitrous or turbos without them. No wonder people keep blowing up motors... you can't significantly increase power without knowing what's going on inside the block.
