transplant battery to trunk. one wire?

ok, so I was talking to some guy about transplanting the battery to teh trunk and he sai dI could only have to run 1 wire to the trunk from the engine bay, and I could just ground the negative terminal to somewhere in the trunk. Is this corrent? Do I really only need to run 1 wire?

well planning on going turbo eventually, and that seems like the most logical place to mount the turbo. If all goes well with the E-manage Ultimate tests with Serge, I'll be getting that with a harness from scalbert. Tune that with my CLS cams, pullies, I/H/E, and then fab up the manifold after I've done my welding class at school. So nothing for sure for about a year, but probably be starting or finishing within a year.

Just make sure that you use a sealed battery if you're going to be mounting it in the trunk. You'll probably want to go with an Optima Red or Yellow Top battery.

Sorry if I'm being captian obvious, but batteries release gases that, while under the hood aren't a big deal, can be if the battery is within the vehicle.

Main reason to go optima is becasue they are dry cell batteries and do not have any battery acid. The fumes wont harm you.. trust me, GM now mounts their batteries in the trunk. But the dry cell batteries (any optima) is good becasue you can mount it any way you want to and there is no acid to spill. But i recommend getting a case for it just incase you ever have anything in your trunk and it slips onto the top posts and connects them and you arch weld your terminals together.

And simple answer to your question, YES 1 wire to your trunk and its the positive, the negative can be grounded to any metal on the frame of the car, but make sure its secure or your gonna have a fire, and make sure you use the same AWG wire as factory uses, I beleive its 8awg, but double check to make sure. And one hint, make sure your put a fuse in between the battery and your line to the front (12 inches from the battery itself on the positive line) so this way if something frys back there your car isnt lighting up with it.

yep, that's what the guy said too, dry cell, and put a fuse between the battery and engine compartment. Looks like he wasn't BSing me. Now I just gotta find some good eals on wire. Nearest place to me is selling all the stuff I need for around $400 which sucks. I'm sure I could find all I needed online for $200-300 max (including battery and battery mount)

any ideas, websites, etc?

You dont need 00 AWG wire, thtas just overkill, a 4-8awg wire is fine and DO NOT RUN THE GROUND UP FRONT! thats just a waste of wire, time and a fire hazard. I use to be an electrician for 5 years so its safe to beleive me on some of this stuff. Why else do you think everything in the car is grounded short to where it is.

But welding cable is recommended, i have about 25ft of 0awg welding wire that i use for my amp. Its better because its a better conductor of electricity and its got a thick shielding to protect from splits in the casing.

for wire, dont buy cheap wire...there is a reason its cheap.

go here http://www.iewc.com its where companies like General Electric get their wire for all their industrial applications. (reason i know is because i use to work for em) btw incase you dont know GE www.ge.com

thank, but no, as you said, that's overkill, and I won't be doing this for a while, so I'll just get it then. thanks though.
