Transmission shifting
Transmission shifting
With my 97 3.0 CL, the trans always seems to be in a higher gear than it should be. The car will downshift to a lower gear, but then of course there is a lag in doing that. Is there some sort of adjustment for this, or some type of mod? I have only had this car for about 4 months, does anyone else find this to be the case with theirs?
Thanks,
Rick

Well then.....
1)Either nobody has ever thought this to be a problem.
2)Mine is a rare case.
3)Or everyone is just used to it and I'm getting anal over the way my car shifts.

I know exactly what your saying.....I got that problem and mine is a 98. The dealer told me to ride it on the second D when I'm driving around the neighborhood....the swith it to the first D when on the highway.....the second D, which I think is D3, goes to about 40, then the RPM's start going crazy....at that point you need to switch gears.......hope this helps....

HG,
I ride it hard often and it shifts just the way it should, but when I just want to drive nice and easy, it seems like the trans always wants to keep a higher gear than is ideal. Adding some throttle just makes it downshift which is annoying. I don't think that the fuzzy logic is using grandma mode in my case, unless I need to disconnect the battery terminal to reset something from the previous driver.
Atlcl,
What would a Venom do for me?
Thanks for the responses.

Re: Trans
umm... u r right... when u do drive nice and easy.. it does shift at lower rpm.. but that's how it is suppose to function tho... the car wants you to drive it hard!
i don't know... try resetting ur ECU and train it from the start... my car shifts after 3500 if i tap on the gas just alittle bit more...

I understand what you are talking about and is not just specific to our CL's, its just the way honda/acura auto trannies work.
Like everyone said, if you're driving in city traffic with lots of stop-n-go, just leave it id (D3), when you get on the highway, put it in (D4). I guess its some kind of gas saving AT logic. If you look in your Owner's Manual (who da hell does that nowadays
), it also recommends D3 for city driving.
You can also get the Venom-400 which will quicken the shift to a lower gear among other things it does.

Just my opinion: The Venom will not change the way your tranny shifts. I don't have an auto, so I don't know exactly what your problem is, but it seems like you are having "problems" that every automatic trans has if you let it shift itself. That's why a lot of people prefer stick because you have total control over your up/down shifts.
