Tranny Fluid ????

just a quick question for all the insightful & knowledgable AZ members.

I have a 1998 Acura CL 2.3 with 143,xxx miles on it. it is sticking up when the temp drops outside and 5th gear has a ever so slight grind to it at higher RPM shifts.

i want to change the fluid and wonder what weight gear oil should I use, and what type is known to work best in the f-series tranny?

any help is appreciated. I am trying to do it soon. I am out of the army on wednesday and going on a 2800 mile road trip.

thanks, -Spc. Logue

GM Synchromesh is like $8 a quart. Get Pennzoil Synchromesh. It's the exact same stuff for like $2.50 a quart. GM just puts it in their own bottle and jacks the price up.

I had a bad 5th gear grind in my GSR tranny and when I switched to synchromesh, it completely got rid of it. I had to stop at a couple auto parts stores to find it. Try Pep Boys first. I bought some oil there the other day and noticed they had it on the shelf.

Search it on Google. I'm sure you'll find hundreds of threads on Synchromesh.

Make sure it's regular Synchromesh and not the Friction Modified. I'm not even sure if they still sell it, but it's for automatic transmissions.

completely 2 different things. ATF is car specific.

I believe the owners manual recommends Honda MTF. you can also use 10w-40 motor oil in the transmission.

really? interesting. I just trust Honda/Acura to much to go to aftermarket brands. Don't get me wrong i still use Aftermarket motor oil but the best.

Transmission I heard is a more sensitive issue.
