Tinting
Tinting
I have a stock '99 3.0 CL, and I want to tint the windows, but I'm deathly afraid of those bubbles.... I'de castrate myself before I drove around with one of those ghettoh-ass cars with a shitty tint job.
That said, there's no place within 50 miles of my house to get it tinted....
So it looks like I'm gonna go DIY.
What should I buy (how much will it cost?)? How long should I plan for this to take? Does Rain have any affect on tinting?
(I live in NC, I think the legal tint limit is 35%, that's what it said online, but a friend of mine said it was only 20%)
If there's another post that already answers these, just send me there...
Also, the quarter is still stuck in my passenger seat rail.... so my passanger seat keeps rocking back and forth...
THanks again

I did my pathfinder 5 years ago and i still dont have bubbles the tint has gotten lighter from the Florida sun but no bubbles and i did my Mustang 2 years ago and it didnt have bubbles when i sold it a month ago. If you dont want bubbles you need a good tint like llumar and you need to make sure your windows are clean really clean but dont use windex the ammonia will destroy the tint and cause the adhesive to fail causing bubbles.
Scrape your windows with a razro blade to make sure there is nothing on them but stay away from the defroster lines on the back window if you have them then wash the windows with johnsons tearless baby shampoo. For the doors it is easiest if you remove the interior panels to apply.. get a small spray bottle spray the out side of your window with a mixture of the shampoo and water put the tint on the window and squeegee it out then cut it. Its ok if it is a little to big you can trim it latter then spray the inside of the window and squeegee the water off to remove any dust now peel the protetive sheeting from the tint while spraying it with the water and shampoo mixture. then respray the window and apply the tint make sure you have sprayed enough so you have time to move the tint in to place and trim it. the most important part now is to get all the water out i used the pink spreaders that you use with bondo they come in diffrent sizes and are soft enough that they wont scratch or tear the tint. The hardest part is the back window depending on the curve you might have to use strips instead of a single piece or if you know how to manipulate tint with a heat gun you can use a single piece but i wouldnt recomend it for a beginer. There are lots of tinting forums out there that can help you if you decide to do it your self. It just takes time and patients
if you go to a good place then they should have no prob. most places like to just bust it out and will either do a crappy job and say oh theres nothing they can do, or know to just tint to the black and then use vinyl strip. again a good place can handle it and should tint the whole windo without any strip. just ask them about it first and then you'll knwo what to do. even though i went to a good place i still said treat it like you own and ill tip you $40 cash.
