TIME Correction Lengths for the 1st GEN

Anyone know the measurements from each speaker to the driver in our car by any chance?

Dude use a measuring tape and measure it yourself.
Plus everyone's measurements are different.

yea it depends on seat position, and yes it makes a difference. i think my measurements were like 1.3 1.7 2.1 1.5 from front left around to rear left, but just measure its not that bad :P

You guys are measuring to your closest ear correct? You prob need to make some compensation for the angle of the speakers as well.

Ima just use Smaart when I get it all put together.

well i was going to angle all the speakers at the passenger in the front seat the farthest from them.. will this acheive the same thing, and then moderate TC for the front speakers... is it worth putting a 3 way component set in the rear deck?

don't even bother with the time alignment unless you have near perfect speaker placement already. the front stage should sound good on both the driver and passenger side. i've spent hours building kickpanels and still can't get a good stage. it's decent but not where i want it to be.

i advise only to use time alignment when everything else is straight.

i wouldn't put 3 way comps in the back. it's a waste of speakers. you just need a little rear fill if any. i would work on the front stage first and add rear speakers if you feel you need some. rear speakers can add ambience to your cabin plus it can bring your front stage up if setup properly

i was really hoping for proaudio's opinion here.

but thanks for the input...
i find it hard to believe that rear speakers are ony to fill in the blank space bak there, but thats why i ask questions

i have 693.5i's in the rear, and do make a noticeable difference when I fade to front and then fade it back on...I just measured and used the time correction, the alteration doesn't sound that much different then before I did it

are you talking about the Alpine HU? I've been thinking about bringing out the tape measure, but haven't had the time.

Eh, rear speakers are overrated. I def would NOT put a $$$ three way set in the rear unless you really like the people that sit back there or you like to jam which gettin' it on. Most people like the rears b/c they are larger drivers (6x9s, etc) and produce more bass. If you really want something back there, get a decent set of 6x9s and leave it at that. If you need something like additional mid-bass, a set of 6.5 mid drivers would be perfect. Spend the $$$ on a kick ass set of fronts.

As far as the time alignment goes - everything should be adjusted based on the driver that is furthest away. Now, furthest away can mean in time as well as physical displacement. You need some $$$ anaysis software like Smaart to see this. Otherwise, general delaying can make a world of difference in the clarity of a system. 1ft is generally 1ms, although it really alters with freq.

Well, imma have to hook up my smaart in my car and do some measurements. I think i'll take the readings from the center of the car not to throw the passenger off.
