Starter is gone...

Can a starter go out at 40,000 miles? Mine just went out and I'm fuckin so pissed. I never heard of a starter going out at 40k. Have you? Does anyone know what can make a starter go out at such low miles? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks
.

i haven't heard about the starter recall, but I know there is an ignition one. it may apply to you - can you hear the starter solinoid "click" when you turn the key? check the ignit recall -call the dealer with your vin and they'll tell you if it applies to your year, make, etc.

It is a 5 year old car, so it is normal. Mileage doesnt really matter on a starter, its how much use it gets. Go to autozone or someplace like that to get one, bought mine for $120 with a core charge. Dont go to the dealer, they wanted $330 for the starter and $180 just to install it. I installed it myself in about 45 minutes having no idea what to do. It was sinmple.

I just got my new starter today. Everything came out to $220 and it has a lifetime warranty. Everywhere else wanted around 350-380. B/S if you ask me. I'm just glad the stress is over. It was the solenoid that was bad. O well it's over and I can go out and drink tonight knowing my car will start
