So yeah, about that rod knock....

well i woke up this morning, and headed off to work at 7:30 just like any weekday. Anyway, I'm just about 3/4 of the way there and the rod knock starts to get really, abnormally loud. **SIDE NOTE:**For the last 2 days, I've been burning coolant and oil, while beating the piss out of it. For instance, the other day I drove 1 mile in 1st gear at 6k rpm, haha. Anyway, i pull up to a traffic light and the car bogs real low, the oil light starts to flash and the car stalls. I manage to get it started after a few tries and it started. It literally sounded like marbles in the engine block, hundreds of them. I make it to this back road about 1/2 mile from work and decide just to punch it all the way to the job in 2nd gear, because by this time it was lacking serious power. I get to the hill and the poor F23 just couldn't take anymore and popped. Spewed coolant and oil all over the place, and continued driving. I made it to work, called the tow truck and had it towed back to my house. Now for the good shit......

yeah , thats the crank

another

and another

pieces of block, rod and whats left of the piston

rod and piece of the cap

looks like the bearing melted and folded over when the rod warped

warped rod

whats left of the piston

these are all pieces i've either found on the road, or pulled from the lower engine cover and cross member. i can't wait to pull the rest of the engine apart. So i got home and worked on the car for a few hours and this is how it looks as of now.

Basicly everything is pulled apart up top. Going to pull the axles, exhaust manifold, drain the coolant and yank that bitch tomorrow niight after work. Hopefully this should be in by Saturday.

I'll be running a JDM OBD2B PCB ECU (no immobilizer). Already drew out the wiring diagram for the 8 wire distributor, so the rest should be a walk in the park, but we'll see. I'll keep ya guys posted

later

i've always wondered what it would be like if you pushed a car till the motor exploded, but i've never had the chance (probably the same for most people)
congratulations Sir on a job well done

Damn, I knew i should have leased a VW

it's in the process of its transition right now. the car is posted up in the garage with no motor. The H23 is on a stand with the harness half attached. I'm in the process of lengthening some of the connectors and rewiring the distributor. After this, i need to install the new clutch and other maintenance stuff. I figure if i put in a few hours every night this week, i should be ready to go back in by Saturday/Sunday.

And my bad about jacking your " JDM, kung foo grip, super unique factor" lol . I just needed a running car and they sold the F20B they had the day before.

i'll hook it up with some shots of the progress later tonight if i can

70,928 miles. the car actually still ran with that hole in the block. i didn't drive it home, but it was able to pull into the garage on it's 3 cyl's. It wasn't quiet and there were clowds of smoke billowing out of the exhaust, but it ran. it was funny.

Lol by no means did i say my car is JDM, the motor just happens to be. And i dont mind a fellow CL'er getting an H23a, I actually think the car shoulda came from the factory with an H22. So us H'ers are just putting it the way it shoulda been, or at least thats how i see it lol.
