Shift button lock not working?

so, I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread.

The button on the shifter for the 3.0's that you have to press in tho shift to certian gears only works sometimes now. I have to sit there pressing the brake pedal over and over until I can push the button in to go out of park, but it seems tow work fine besides that.

any ideas?

Your shifter is locking up somewhere below the center consol...check to see if a bolt or screw is loose.

I couldn't imagine it being the tranny unless your D4 light is blinking

If you could push the button in but it won't shift into gear from park then it could be the brake sensor switch.

Especially since your engaging the brake several times before it'll release

well I popped open that little door thing next to the shifter and it was just empty underneath there. I thought that was supposed to be the manual shift lock release.

If the brake sensor switch is out, your brake lights won't come on either. So get that changed out. Just looked under the dash and its a switch that the brake pedal hits . You can't miss it.

The place where you stick your key was empty?

yep it was just a hollow opening with onthing under there. I could see the inside of the shifter assembly, but that's it.

It is the brake sensor switch that is the problem because the brake lights don't come on either when it doesn't work. It appears toe be working perfectly now though, so I dunno. If it starts messing up again I'll probably replace it so I don't get rear ended.

I think it's that goldish colored cylinder thing witha little tiny push button that is pressed in when the brake pedal is not pressed down, and is released when you press the brake pedal. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the brake sensor switch?

You'll have to pull and remove that dash panel and remove the metal braket to get to the switch. Can't remove the switch without doing that. I tried. LOL

I hope I don't have to replace it, and it just keeps working properly again.
