restating my idle problem

Ok...Anytime of the day when i start my car it idles anywhere from 1,300rpm-1,700rpm then gradually after about 5-10 minutes drops down to bout 1,000rpm-800rpm. When it does this in the begging the engine is pretty loud. But once i put it into gear it stays at 750rpm and idles at 750rpm after that. My car just started doing this recently. The mechanic said its fine, but i dont think its fine to idle at like 1500 for 5 min every time i start my car...Any one have any ideas? Is this bad?

My 5speed 2.3 does that but it isn't really louder, just if i cold start it turns about 1200 rpms for a while then eventually idles more like 600, it seems to be fine.

your car is designed to idle a bit higher than normal at first to be able to warm up the engine faster so it does not cause excess wear and tear to your internals. Also, the lower the RPM on a cold engine, the higher amount of emissions the engine produces. therefore, engineers design the car to idle a bit higher at first, the noise you hear is the fan, engine idle, and thermostat/cooling system al working together dont worry be happy!

I notice in your other post you said you just put a bypass valve on your CAI, did it idle like this beforehand?? perhaps you can take the bypass valve off, and see if it still does your "unusual" idling. otherwise, you can disconnect the battery terminals for 30-45 minutes and connect them again to reset the computer. maybe it will solve the problem, does magic for me sometime.

mine does that wen i first start up the car in the morning

after i drive around a bit, park and turn off and turn it back on, its normal rpms again

i think it does that to warm up your engine faster in the morning when the temperature is low

it takes time and mileage to make injectors "dirty".. they really get get somewhat clogged and weak tryin to push all that gas into the engine..

loud - i mean - while the car is idling they tend to make a click/hissh type sound... it is a problem with the air/fuel delivery.. i poured some redline fuel injector cleaner before i filled it with 94+ octane from sunoco..drove it for about 10 minutes normally.. drove it like mad.. 80+mph.. for about 30 minutes to da jerzay shore.. next day i started it up and it only idled for about 1-2 minutes before calmin down(usually took about 5-6) and never did it again that day..now it only does it in the morning

could be gas, trip, or the pure alcohol mix that is redline..?

Well, maybe it is a good thing that the check engine light came on. You can go to Autozone or somewhere and extract the code (Or you can buy a codereader for about $100). The computer in the car will tell you what the problem is, more than likely a sensor. Maybe an idle air control valve or throttle position sensor or something.

if ur havin that much problems just take the car in to get looked at ... u can get an estamit ( sp???) prolly for free or really cheap ... might just be ur idle is off and can be easily corrected .. the injectors would be making a very noticably ticking ( most honda engines have this tick )
