Replaced clutch, clutch master cylinder leaking
I had a shop replace the clutch in my '98 5 speed 5 months and 5000 km (3000 mi) ago. That went fine and I didn't notice any problems since then. The only thing which I found slightly odd since the very beginning was how easy it was to press the clutch in.
Did an oil change today and they noticed that the corresponding fluid level was low. Pointed out to me that the clutch master cylinder was leaking slowly inside the car I was able to see the stained carpet up behind the clutch pedal once I stuck my head there.
Do I have a case to go bitch at the mechanic who did my clutch, or does this sound totally unrelated? It just seems awfully unlikely to me that it would go right as the clutch was done. For all I know it could have been leaking for months, or ever since the beginning.

I don't think they can fuck up your cylinder doing the clutch install. I know I had my master cylinder replaced when I had my clutch done last year it's not anything crazy to had the MC go around the same time as the clutch.
You're probably just going to have to pay to get it replaced you're not going to be able to take that one back on the guy that did your clutch unless he also replaced the master cylinder at that time and the new one is leaking.

Can anyone else offer their 2 cents?

Dealership told me the master was seeping and the clutch was basically shot. I took their quote and part lists bought all the parts myself and had my own shop do the install :P
Whether or not it really was I don't know but the shop that I had do the install didn't say anything to the contrary and they're some what friends of the family.

Should I replace the slave cylinder along with the master?
One shop I called suggested doing both of them at the same time, while the other said that the work to replace them doesn't overlap and there is no point in replacing the slave if only the master is leaking.

the slave is the cheaper easier one to replace, might as well throw it on there

you're not, but they usually go on manual CL's before the master, so I was saying to throw it in, but if it ain broke don't fix it

dont go bitching at the mechanic. he had nothing to do with your leaking MC. changing out the MC is pretty easy. you might as well change out the slave cylinder also. if you are going to change out the MC make sure you bleed the MC first
